Three More Put
On NCAA Trial
By The ASSOCIATED PRESS
NEW ORLEANS—The National Athletic Assn’s Coun
cil Wednesday placed Auburn on probation for three years
and warned the school that any infractions during the period
may lead to expulsion from the NCAA.
Auburn’s probation period was the longest ever handed
down by the NCAA. One other

HOUSTON, Tex.—Clever Joey
Brown, seeking a rematch for
the title, won a unanimous deci
sion from world lightweight
champion Wallace Bnd Smith
last night in a nationally tele
vised non-title boxing match.
Southeastern Conference school,
the University of Florida, and the
University of Louisville also were
placed on probation. Their proba
tions are for two years.
The probations are effective im
mediately.
For the first two years, the Ala
bama school’s athletes are barred
from those selected invitational
events which cooperate with the
NCAA in the administration of its
enforcement program. The events
include post-season bowl games
and all NCAA events.

In Navasota
A&M’s Rodeo Club moves into
the Navasota Rodeo Arena Friday
and Saturday for a match rodeo
with Sam Houston Teacher’s Col
lege of Huntsville.
Two pei’formances are schedul
ed, beginning at 8 p.m. each even
ing. Ten students from each col
lege will be allowed to enter each
event.
The rodeo is being held to see
which school can make the most
points in each event and the total
will determine the final winner.
Entry fees are $10.00 in each
event, but there will be no prizes
awarded to the individual winners.
The stock will be furnished by
the Fayette County Stock Produc
ers, Incorporated, of La Grange.
The school’s football team was
made ineligible also for participa
tion in the national television ser
ies administered by the NCAA.
THE UNIVERSITY of Louisville’s
basketball team was ruled ineligi
ble to participate in the NCAA
Tournament and a selected group
of invitational meets which coordi
nate with the NCAA. Those tour
neys include the All-College Tour
nament at Oklahoma City, Okla.,
the Holiday Festival at New York,
the National Invitational Touma-
ment and the Sugar and Cotton
Bowl Tournaments.
The University of Florida’s ath
letes were ruled ineligible to enter
athletes or teams in NCAA compe
tition and those invitational events
which cooperate with the NCAA in
the administration of its enforce
ment program.
THE NCAA’S ACTION on Aub
urn supported rulings earlier this
year by the Southeastern Confer
ence.
The Council said it found that
staff member of the univex-sity, as
sistant football Coach Hal Hex*-
ring, duxdng Nov. 1955, offei’ed fi
nancial aid to two pi’ospective stu
dent-athletes in excess of that per
mitted by the NCAA and the
Southeastex*n Conference.
The Southeastern Conference
placed Aubuxn on px-obation for an
indefinite period in the same case.
LOUISVILLE ALSO was found
guilty of offering two pi'ospeetive
student athletes financial aid in ex
cess of that permitted by the NC
AA.
Byex-s said the aid was in the
foxm of transportation between the
student-athletes’ home and the
school campus.
