The Aggies broke the school’s
all-time scoring mark in their con
ference opener by blasting the
Bears, 90-70, in White Coliseum.
But indications from the Bruins’
Waco lair are that things won’t be
so easy for the Cadets this time.
Probable starters for the Aggies
tonight are George Mehaffey, Bill
Brophy, Fritzie Connally, Ken Hut
to and Roger Harvey. For the
Bears, 6-6 Louis Estes, Jerry Mal-
lett, 6-5, Wayne Connally, 5-11, A1
White, 6-1, and Ed Franklin, 6-1,
will get Coach Bill Henderson’s
starting nod.
A&M puts its 3-3 league record,
good enough for fourth place in
SWC standings, on the line against
the Bears’ 1-6 slate. Baylor is tied
for the loop cellar with Texas.
Leading the Bruin attack tonight
will be center Estes, who has aver
aged 20 points a game in loop ac

with 101 and a 16.8 average.

With Katy Five
By MAURICE OLIAN
CHS Sports Correspondent
Coach Larry Hayes’ Consolidated
Tigers will try to sew up the
district 25-A basketball champion
ship tonight when they tangle
with a strong Katy five at Katy.
CHS, winner of 10 of its last 13
putings, currently leads district
standings with a perfect 6-0 rec
ord. Katy is close behind with a
6-1 slate, their only loss being to
Consolidated, a close 31-30 affair
at College Station.
The contest, starting immediate
ly after the 7 p.m. “B” game 4 is a
crucial one since a loss to Katy
would throw the district race into
a tie between these same two
teams.
Consolidated moves over to Tom-
ball Monday night in a game that
will pick up lustre should the Ti
gers lose tonight. CHS would have
to win the Tomball game In order
to assure at least a tie for the
crown, should they drop tonight’s
fracas.
Starting for the Tigers tonight
will be Manuel Garcia, Norman
Floeck, Dick Hickman, Jon Ray
Perryman and Bill Hall.

Cagers Workouts
In the recent controversy over
the basketball team’s lack of a
place to practice, it was indirect
ly implied that intramural cagers
might have kept the Aggies from
working out in De Ware Field
House, but Barney Welch, Direc
tor of Intramurals, says this just
isn’t so.
“I talked to Coach Loeffler
before the season started, and
told him that any time he needed
to use DeWare Field House we
could easily reschedule our in
tramural games. There was .iust
a misunderstanding I guess,”
said Welch.
