Squadron 12 Fish Capture Intramural Ping Pong Title -i- i a x o ct j 9 _i_/ X , Xt/OO X XXXj r>^ ± ± AixiwiN By JOE DAN BOYD Intramural Writer Squadron 12 captured the fresh men intramural ping pong champ ionship yesterday, winning four of five matches in the final round with C infantry. Donald Weeks, Johnny Serur, Carlos Salinas, Eddie Boldt and J. F. Poynor led the air force team. Merrick Truly, Bill Martin, John ny Dennis, Ike White and Lloyd Neal had moved the infantry into the finals but couldn’t get past the high flying squadron 12 team. Ben Dickerson pushed 10 points through the mesh to no avail as a hustling squadron 23 team edged squadron 3, 19-18 in class A basket ball. Dickerson was the game’s high point man as no other player being credited with more than four points. In other cage action, squadron 1, squadron 2, A athletics and squad ron 19 won by forfeits. With near-freezing weather ham pering the play of both teams, B infantry edged A composite, 6-0, in class B football. The maroon band drew a forfeit in the only other scheduled game. Four powerhouses of class B football are scheduled to collide Monday, December 5, in the first round of the playoffs. Unbeaten squadron 24 will face A antiaircraft artillery’s once- beaten squad. Don Dittman poses a serious thi*eat defensively for squadron 24 and speedster Ronnie Mafrige, who pulled the army team’s final league game out of the fire, will have to be stopped if the air force squad is to remain un defeated. Dick Thomas’ terrific aerial game has sparked the squadron 24 attack so far this season with end Cliff Tuttle his number one target. Squadron 17 will pit the strength of a 3-1 record against mighty squadron 8, who rumbled undefeat ed through league compfetition. The New York boxing commis sion has a ruling that forbids fighters to wear a mustache in the ring. CHS Basketball Schedule A&M Consolidated’s Tigers, run ners-up for the District 25-A championship last year, will play in three tournaments and have seven of their 14 games here this season. * Both the Tigers and the Kittens went down to defeat Tuesday in the opener as Cypress-Fairbanks took a double win, 32-28 and 33-21.
