In the game of the week, Texas and TCU tangle in Aus
tin to see who’s going to represent the Southwest Conference
in the Cotton Bowl. The experts have picked TCU. The Bat
talion picks:
A&M over Rice SMU over Arkansas
TCU over Texas Baylor idle
This is November, and November is supposedly Rice’s
big month. With five regulars back in running form again,
the Owls figure to be plenty tough. Two of the Owl’s all-
American candidates, end Marshall Crawford and tackle Ed
die Rayburn, will be in their best playing shape of the year.
The Aggies haven’t been too impressive in workouts this

A&M should take this one by

TCU in a close 5 point win.
Arkansas’ rugged Rasorbacks
move into Dallas this weekend to
face the mean and monstrous SMU
Mustangs. The Ponies turned in a
fine effort against the Aggies last
week, despite the 11 point differ
ence. Arkansas, of course, tied the
Aggies in their meeting at Fayette
ville. Arkansas lost to the Mus
tangs last year when it won the
championship, and we think they
will come out short again Saturday.
SMU by 7 points.

Fifteen years ago Bill (Jitterbug) Henderson personally
introduced Rice Coach Jess Neely to Southwest Conference
football by leading the Aggies to a stunning 25-0 victory.
This will be Neely’s last appearance against the Aggies
in the role of head coach—and appropriately enough it’s
Jitterbug’s day again.
In the 1940 game against Rice Henderson scored one of
the most outstanding one-man feats in SWC history. He
snared eight straight passes from the arm of Marion Pugh
and Marland Jeffrey to defeat a Rice team that had held the
great John Kimbrough and the Aggies scoreless in the first
half.
* Henderson won a total of
14 letters at A&M, the largest
number of awards ever gar
nered by an Aggie athlete.
Today the lean, 6-4, Aggie is
confined to Veteran’s Hospital, a
victim of multiple sclerosis. As a
tribute to one of Aggielaid’s im
mortals, the Aggie band will spell
out “Jitterbug” at half-time.
The Aggies went into a dress re
hearsal for Saturday’s battle in
huge Rice stadium yesterday. A&M
will be out to break the Owls 10
year domination, longest in con
ference history.
“Our linemen, some of ’e n, have
been trying to fool ’em and fancy-
dan ’em lately. We can’t fake any
body out, we’ve got to get in there
and dig ’em out if we expect to
move somebody,” said Coach Paul
Bryant.
“FOR SOME of them the sea
son’s over. They just don’t want
to get out there and hit anybody,
They act like a bunch of guys
goin’ steady,” continued Bryant.
The Aggies could have their
championship hopes blasted in this
seemingly cut-and-dried game
The Owls, angry over four straight
losses and in their best physical
condition in a month might reach
the heights expected of them be
fore the-season started.
A sellout crowd of 70,000 is ex
pected. The Aggie, with the sec
ond best defense in the conference
and rated No. 9 in the nation—one
notch below Texas Christian—are
slight favorites. The Cadets have
lost only one game in eight, while
Rice has won only two out of sev-

Tomball Here
A&M Consolidated’s Tigers
will be trying for their first
district win as they close their
1955 season against the Tom
ball Cougars tonight at 8 p.m.
on Tiger Field.
Paced by the fine passing com
bination of quarterback Roach to
halfback Baker McAdams, who
have hit for a touchdown in every
game, the Cougars have a 3-4-2
record on the season and are all
even in district play with 1-1-1 on
the ledger.
The Tigers absorbed their worst
beating of the season at the hands
of the Sealy Tigers, who cinched
their second consecutive 25-A
crown, 60-21 last week. Sealy
crushed Tomball, 53-27 in their
meeting. CHS goes in Friday
night’s contest with a 0-3 district
record and is 1-7- on the year.
Starting for Consolidated will
be Norman Floeck at left end, Dick
Hickman at left tackle, Garland
Andrews at left guard, Steadman
Davis at center, David McNeely at
right guard, Ed Linton at right
tackle and Manuel Garcia at right
end.
In the backfield finds Feldman
at quarterback, Bobby Witcher and
Kavanaugh at the halfbacks and
Jack McNeely at full.

JACK PARDEE is making a strong bid for all-Southwest
Conference honors and his 13 unassisted tackles against
SMU last week did nothing to hurt his chances.
“DON’T FORGET that Novem
ber is here at last,” said one Rice
partisan, “and November has been
the month of maturity for previous
Neely teams.”
Fullback Jack Pardee moved up
to fourth among SWC ball carriers
last week with 55 yards in only
six trips against the Mustangs.
