Undefeated Kittens To Play
Madisonville There Tonight
By MAURICE OLIAN
CHS Sports Correspondent
The undefeated A&M Con
solidated Kittens try to wrap
up the District 25-A junior
high championship tonight at
7:30 against Madisonville’s
rugged eleven at Madisonville.
Only a 19-19 stalemate with
powerful Huntsville mars the oth
erwise spotless Kitten record. They
go into tonight’s clash with a 5-0-1
won-lost slate.
The Kittens romped and stomped
over Madisonville in their last
meeting at College Station, 35-7,
and are favored again tonight.
Consolidated edged Navasota last
week 20-13 in the final minutes
of play. The Kittens hold other
decisions over Navasota, 33-0,
Hearne, 26-0, and Huntsville, 13-6,
so far this season.
The starting offensive lineup for
the Kittens tonight includes left
end Virdon Smith, left tackle Mor
ris Stone, left guard Ken Casey,
center Brenner Sayers, right guard
Joel Mills, right tackle Howard
Mitchell and right end Ben Jackson
in the line.
Quarterback Buddy Holick di
rects the Kitten T-formation, Tom
my Bramble and Dee Smith hold
down the halfback positions, and
Condy Pugh starts at fullback.
On defense the CHS lineup shows
three changes. Harold Alford goes
in for Casey and Fred Wright
takes over Sayer’s position. Jimmy
Wright, who has been a starter at
fullback, is injured this week.
A&M Consolidated’s high school
squad moves into Sealy tomorrow
night, and will be looking for its
first District 25-A win of the sea
son.
Sealy pulled out its offensive
guns last week to trample Tom-
ball’s Cougars 53-27. The lopsided
victory was Sealy’s second against
on losses in conference action, and
upped its season record to an im
pressive 6-2 mark. Sealy is the
defending district champion.
Jack McNeely, who played full
back for the first time last Friday
night against Waller, turned in
probably the best running perfoi-m-
ance by a Tiger back this year. He
pounded the Bulldog line for 95
yards in 19 trips to emerge as the
game’s leading ground gainer.
Vaughan, Hataway Aid
Squadron 3 Victory

The accurate arm of quar
terback Dick Vaughan com
bined with glue fingered
James Hataway to lead Squad
ron 3 over Squadron 23, 6-0,
in freshman intramurals Tuesday.
Bagging one of Vaughan’s many
short aerials, Hataway eluded
the entire Sqd. 23 defense to race
over the goal line untouched and
wrap up the ball game in a neat
one touchdown package.
The conversion try by Richard
Hussey was no good, and neither
team could manage another tally.
Squadron 23 looked like a new
team in the second half of play,
as Hubert Vykukal intercepted a
stray Vaughan pass to set-up a
short aerial drive of their own.
