Winners this week? A&M over Baylor Rice over Texas Miami over TCU SMU over Kansas Arkansas over Mississippi Baylor’s ferocious Bears amble into College Station Sat urday afternoon fresh from their win over Washington’s powerful Huskies. From all reports, the Bruins are in their Football (Continued from Page 1) game. The sophomore halfback’s bruised knee is improved, but not enough to stand contact play. Coach Paul (Bear) Bryant plans to start Bill Dendy in Crow’s va cant position. Dendy averaged 9.2 yards per carry against TCU. Backing up Dendy will be Don Watson, who darted for two TD’s last Saturday and was picked as the “Back of the Week” by the Dallas Morning News. Donnie Grant gets the starting nod over Jim Wright at quarter back, but both are scheduled to see lots of action. Jack Pardee and Lloyd Taylor round out the start ing backfield. A&M PUT the finishing touches on its offense yesterday in a short practice session. Dennis Goehring and Dee Powell are waging a close- battle for the right guard posi tion. Powell will probably start this week, while Goehring started aaginst TCU. Ping Pong Anyone? M'SC Table Tennis* committee will meet Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. for an organizational meeting. CHS Opens District Chase Against Katy Tonight at 8 A&M Consolidated’s Tigers, with a 1-4-1 season record, open their District 25-A schedule in Katy to night at 8 p.m. The Tigers broke a three-game losing streak last Friday, holding the Cypress-Fairbanks Bobcats to a 6-6 tie. Workhorse of the Tigers has been sophomore fullback Bill Kav- anaugh, heaviest man on the start ing lineup at 165 pounds, who leads in rushing with 301 yards in 96 carries. Rice, a strong pre-season choice for the SWC crown, and Texas have both suffered defeats at the hands of league foes. Texas will be up, but Rice has too many guns. Rice by 5 points. SMU surprised many people last week, including this observer, and should push Kansas around almost at will. In an early season game Kansas lost to powerful TCU by a 47-14 score. Fast - improving SMU by 13. MIGHTY MIAMI, upset by Geor gia Tech and stunned by Notre Dame, is primed for the Horned Frogs, TCU showed last week that it could be stopped, but the Frogs should be on the rebound tomoi-- row. Miami will slip by TCU by 6 points, however. In another non-conference clash, at Fayetteville, the vastly im proved Porkers take on the Missis sippi Rebs, whom they edged last year 6-0. Arkansas by 7 points in this one.
