Prediction Record
(13 right, 2 wrong, 1 tie)
A bottle-neck at the top of the conference standings,
caused by the three-way tie between A&M, Baylor and SMU,
will be corrected this weekend, while two other teams battle
for survival in the hectic SWC race. Winners this week?
A&M over Baylor
Rice over Texas Miami over TCU
SMU over Kansas Arkansas over Mississippi
Baylor’s ferocious Bears amble into College Station Sat
urday afternoon fresh from their win over Washington’s
powerful Huskies. From all reports, the Bruins are in their
Football
(Continued from Page 1)
game. The sophomore halfback’s
bruised knee is improved, but not
enough to stand contact play.
Coach Paul (Bear) Bryant plans
to start Bill Dendy in Crow’s va
cant position. Dendy averaged 9.2
yards per carry against TCU.
Backing up Dendy will be Don
Watson, who darted for two TD’s
last Saturday and was picked as
the “Back of the Week” by the
Dallas Morning News.
Donnie Grant gets the starting
nod over Jim Wright at quarter
back, but both are scheduled to see
lots of action. Jack Pardee and
Lloyd Taylor round out the start
ing backfield.
A&M PUT the finishing touches
on its offense yesterday in a short
practice session. Dennis Goehring
and Dee Powell are waging a close-
battle for the right guard posi
tion. Powell will probably start
this week, while Goehring started
aaginst TCU.

Against Katy Tonight at 8
A&M Consolidated’s Tigers, with
a 1-4-1 season record, open their
District 25-A schedule in Katy to
night at 8 p.m.
The Tigers broke a three-game
losing streak last Friday, holding
the Cypress-Fairbanks Bobcats to
a 6-6 tie.
Workhorse of the Tigers has
been sophomore fullback Bill Kav-
anaugh, heaviest man on the start
ing lineup at 165 pounds, who leads
in rushing with 301 yards in 96
carries. Behind him are Bobby

themselves in an unusual situation
this weekend; both are fighting to
stay in the title chase. Rice, a
strong pre-season choice for the
SWC crown, and Texas have both
suffered defeats at the hands of
league foes. Texas will be up, but
Rice has too many guns. Rice by
5 points.
SMU surprised many people last
week, including this observer, and
should push Kansas around almost
at will. In an early season game
Kansas lost to powerful TCU by
a 47-14 score. Fast - improving
SMU by 13.
MIGHTY MIAMI, upset by Geor
gia Tech and stunned by Notre
Dame, is primed for the Horned
Frogs, TCU showed last week that
it could be stopped, but the Frogs
should be on the rebound tomoi--
row. Miami will slip by TCU by
6 points, however.
In another non-conference clash,
at Fayetteville, the vastly im
proved Porkers take on the Missis
sippi Rebs, whom they edged last
year 6-0. Arkansas by 7 points
in this one.
