How would you like this kind of job? • • • 66 As Telephone Manager I represent Mason City to my company, and vice- versa. Among my customers are bank ers, farmers, housewives, merchants . . . each with different questions and prob lems about telephone service. Through public information and good business office service, my people and I do our best to furnish the answers. 66 My assignment calls for varied activi ties—sales, public relations, office super vision. One minute I’m describing a new construction program to a group of businessmen . . . the next explaining a new service to a rural customer. 66 It’s a job with lots of variety and re sponsibility, and I enjoy every day of it. My supervisor is 75 miles away,” says Jack, 66 and that puts me pretty much on my own—which is the way I like it.”* Jack MacAllister graduated with a B.S. in Com merce and started with Northwestern Bell about five years ago. As Telephone Manager at the age of 28, he is typical of the many young men who are building careers in telephone work. Similar op portunities exist today with other Bell telephone companies ... also with Bell Telephone Labora tories, Western Electric and Sandia Corporation. Your Placement Officer has all the details. BELL TELEPHONE SYSTEM * P. S. Since this case history was prepared. Jack has been promoted. Now a manager at Des Moines, Iowa, he has increased responsibilities. 1 LOOK OUT! Yet she concentrates on the work at hand, peeling an apple with still dextrous fingers as she rocks on into the long afternoon of life. She is a simple person. Her life has not been easy. There have been moments of great happiness . . . and of great sad ness; times of drought and times when the harvest came in a kind of golden glory from the bounty of the earth. But through it all she has had a nour ishment that has nothing to do with crops and weather, a kind of sustenance that has stood by her at all times and in all seasons . . . FAITH. Hers is a complete Faith in God and in her Church, a Faith that has made her life happy and useful ... a Faith that has furnished food for the soul. THE CHURCH FOR ALL . . . ALL FOR THE CHURCH The Church is the greatest fac tor on earth for the building of character and good citizenship. It is a storehouse of spiritual values. Without a strong Church, neither democracy nor civilization can survive. There are four sound reasons why every person should attend services regularly and sup port the Church. They are: (1) For his own sake. (2) For his children's sake. (3) For the sake of his community and nation. (4) For the sake of the Church itself, which needs his moral and ma terial support.
