Three CS
Swimmers
Win Medals
Gail Schlesselman, Martha
Shawn and John Harrington,
who entered the State AAU
Swimming Championships in
San Antonio last weekend,
came back with several medals.
Gail won first place in the 110-
yard butterfly breaststroke, and
fourth in the 220-yard bi’eaststroke.
Martha took two second places in
110- and 220-yard backstroke, and
John also placed second in the
same races in the men’s division.
This weekend the swimming'
team will enter the Golfcrest Invi
tational Meet in Houston, which
will be held Friday, Saturday and
Sunday.
Entrants in the junior division,
for those 13 and under, will be
Helen Klipple, Patsy Wilkins, Pat
sy Varvel, Sally Lehr, Sharon Pat
terson, Linda Chalk, Marcia Goode,
Shirley Rogers, Ma.ry Frances Pad
gett, Fred Prison, Joe Prusse, Jud
Rodgers, Alex Quisenberry and
Howard Mitchell.
Intermediates will be Tom Ivy,
Richard Padgett, John Harrington,
Judy Litton, Martha Shawn, Gail
Schlesselman, Mai-y Varvel, Ann
Williamson and Pat Jackson.
Tetsuo Okamoto, Roland Paird,
Don Draper, Skippy Fletcher, Jim
Skelton, Ann Schlesselman and
Geri Lapham will be entered in the
senior division for the 17-and-above
age group.
CS Swimmers
Place In Meet
Several of College Station’s
young swimmers took places in
the Junior Olympics held in Hous
ton, July 28, and led their team
to fifth place in the girls’ division
and sixth in the boys’.
Alex Quisenberry won third
place in the 50-meter backstroke,
and Sally Lehr, who swam in the
200-meter individual medley, got
fourth.
The girls’ 200-meter medley re
lay team took fourth place. Swim
ming on it were Sally Lehr, Patsy
Varvel, Shirley Rogers and Pamela
Hayes.
A team composed of Alex Quis
enberry, Clarke Kimberling, Joe
Prusse and David Reynolds placed
third in the 200-meter medley re
lay and fifth in the 200-meter free
style relay.

For Short Course
Two members of the A&M staff

ond Annual Sales and Management
Short Course for Flowers held at
Louisiana State University this
Week.
They are A. F. DeWerth, head
of the Department of Floi'iculture
and Landscape Architecture, and
Dr. H. P. Sorensen of the Depart
ment of Agricultural Economics &
Sociology.
Subjects of their talks, respec
tively, were “Merchandising Con
trol and Care Insui’es a Profit,”
and “Supplying Cut Flowers and
Flowering Pot Plants for Every
day Use in the Home.”
The short course is sponsored
jointly by Louisiana State Univer
sity’s Agricultural Extension Serv
ice, and the Louisiana State Flor
ists Association.
