Page 4 THE BATTALION Thursday, May 26, 1955 Hardgrove Ready Ag Nine Plays Bryan In Practice Game ‘High Nooners 9 Help Hitters By RONNIE GREATHOUSE Battalion Sports Editor With ace pitcher Joe Hardgrove sound once again, A&M gives local baseball fans a sneak preview of its championship form tonight against the Bryan all-stars at Travis park in Bryan. The practice game, scheduled to help the Aggies get ac customed to playing at night, begins at 7:30 p.m. Admis sion is free. Hardgrove, leading conference twirler, and unanimous all- SWC choice, will start for the Cadets tonight. Big Jerry Nelson and Dick Munday will split the mound duties with Hardgrove. “Hardgrove seems to be throwing harder than before ~*he hurt his arm,” said Jimmy Williams, unanimous all-SWC catcher. Tickets to the Aggie-Ari- zona series next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday are avail able now. Prices are $1.50 for box seats, $1 for general admission and 50 cents for students. These tickets may be purchased (See BASEBALL, Page 5) Behind the scenes of any cham pionship team are those who share the work, but never get the glory. Pitchers Lynn Monical, Doug Mul lins and catcher Louie Nelson, dub bed the “High Nooners” by their teammates fall into this category. “It’s hard to see how' we could have won without those guys play ing their hearts out in practice every day,” said Captain Les Byrd. Monical, a junior righthander from Lake Jackson, and sophomore Mullins take most of the intra squad and batting practice chores. They begin pitching batting prac tice at 12 p.m. on the days A&M has a game, and thus picked-up the nick-name “High Nooners.” “They’re the best batting prac tice pitchers I’ve ever batted against” said John Stockton, “they sure help me with my hitting. They could make about any other staff in the league now.” Nelson, 6-2 sophomore back stop, from San Antonio, calls all the pitches in batting practice, and gives Aggie baserunners plenty of headaches in intrasquad games.
