Flying Club Planned Here

Students interested in starting a
flying club at A&M are requested
to attend an organizational meeting
tonight at 7:30 in Room 3D in the
Memorial Student Center.
Membership Mull be open only to
student or private pilots, said Ty
ree Hardy, organizer of the club.
Fred Weick, director of personal
aircraft research here, has agreed
to act^as sponsor.
Last week David Huebner, Joe
Reeves, Ed Rivers, Bob Parry, Ty
ree and Weick atended the Nation
al Intercollegiate Air meet at Mea-
chan field in Fort Worth.
They competed in power-on and
power-off spot landings, naviga
tional and “bombing” contests.
Carswell air force base of Fort
Worth put on a static display of
the B-36 and B-47 bombers; and
the base’s acrobatic team put on
a show in Thunderbird jets.

peted.
Saturday night about 200 stu
dents attended a banquet held in
their honor, with Gen. Montgomery
of Carswell as the main speaker.

Moms and Dads
Mrs. Raymond V. Hite has been
elected president of the Mothers
and Dads club of A&M Consolida
ted school for the coming school
year, succeeding J. Wheeler Bar
ger.
Other officers elected last week
were Mrs. George Huebner, vice-
president for grade school; Mrs.
Bill C. Moore, vice-president for
junior high school; Mrs. Neal M.
Randolph, vice president for sen
ior high school; Mrs. John Sperry,
secretary and Maj. David E. Phil
ips, treasurer.
Reports of officers and commit
tees indicated a large participation
by parents in major club activities
for the year and a substantial con
tribution to incidental equipment
and supplies of the school.

pole vault to put the blue chips on
the last event. Texas had to fin
ish two places above the Aggies in
the relay to win.
Thomas and Rice’s Stephen
James again put on a two-man
duel in the vault. After both clear
ed 13-6, the bar was put at 13-
llVz. James cleared it on his last
try after Thomas had knocked the
bar off on his third leap and dis
gustedly pounded the ground with
his fist.
Aggie firsts, in addition to Har-
tung’s win in the low hurdles, were
won by Hollingsworth in the highs;
Bonorden in the shot, with 52-10-
3 A; ^.nd Fritzie Connally, who tied
for first in the high jump at 6-3.
Herman Johnson, who was sec
ond in the shot, was upset in the
discus by Rice’s Ed Jackson. Jack-
son had 156-4, the best of his ca
reer.

to second on Bowers’ boot of

third base line, but was forced at
third by John Hoyle, who was safe
at first on a fielder’s choice. Clyde
Stinson, hatting for Munday,

Stockton’s game tying single.
Hoyle scored all the way from
first base on Stockton’s smash,
barely beating the throw in.
SMU came close to winning in
the last of the ninth. With the
bases loaded, and a 3-2 count on
Bob Mills, Vanzura came through
with a straight fast ball that Mills
grounded harmlessly to Schero for
the out.
After two outs in the top of the
11th Stockton blasted a 1-1 pitch
down the right field line for a
triple that scored Ablon from first
with what proved to be the win
ning run.
