Federation Installs New Officers
Mrs. F. C. Olds of Abilene was
installed as the president of the
Federation of Texas V A&M College
Mothers’ club Saturday at the an
nual meeting of the federation in
the Memorial Student Center.
The meeting was held following a
coffee given by the Brazos county
A&M Mothers’ club in the MSC.
Mrs. J. F. Van Wert, 1954-55
president, of Marshall called the
meeting to order after which Mrs.
Ide P. Trotter of College Station

ed the entertainment with three
piano selections.
Guest speaker for the meeting
was Dr. John P. Abbott whose ad
dress was on "1930-1955-1980.”
Following Dr. Abbott’s address
Mrs. V. A. Hinze of San Antonio
made the presentation of gifts to
the federation’s past presidents.
Eight past-presidents were pres
ent to receive the gifts which were
engraved silver compotes. Those
present were Mrs. F. L. Thomas,
1929, College Station; Mrs. T. O.
Walton sr., 1929-43, College Sta
tion; Mrs. D. B. Gofer, acting 1942-
46, College Station; Mrs. Charles
W. Tate, 1948-49, San Antonio;
Mrs. E. H. Andrew, 1949-50, Cor
pus Christi; Mrs. A. F. Harvey,
1951-52, Houston; Mrs. Becker and
Mrs. Van Wert.
A report of the registration com
mittee showed that there were 135
mothers present at the meeting;
76 delegates and 59 visitors. A
report of the clubs was condensed
and given by Mrs. Ted Stephens
of Brownsville, recording secreta
ry 1954-55. The federation’s proj
ect for the coming year is to redec
orate the waiting room of the col
lege hospital.
New Officers
Mrs. O. A. Ashworth of Bryan
installed the new officers following
the report of the nomination com
mittee by Mrs. L. R. Sexton, chair
man. New officers of the federa
tion who were installed were Mrs.
Olds; Mrs. Van Wert, vice-presi
dent at large; Mrs. Frank Mil-
stead, Tyler, first vice-president;
Mrs. Ralph Plumlee, Dallas, sec
ond vice-president; Mrs. C. H.
Rydell, Hutto, fourth vice-presi
dent; Mrs. Frank Goldstone, Hous
ton, fifth vice-president; Mrs. Paul
Holladay, Baytown, recording sec
retary; Mrs. C. E. Gathlin, Abi
lene, corresponding secretary; Mrs.
Leo L. Fuchs, Cameron, treasurer;
and Mrs. H. Durwood Thompson,
Corpus Christi, parliamentarian.
Those new officers absent were
Mrs. David H. Morgan, College
Station, honorary president; Mrs.
O. O. Mattiza, Port Arthur, third
vice-president; and Mrs. H. L. Faw
cett, Del Rio, historian.

Influenza Leads
Influenza was the leading dis
ease in the College Station-Bryan
area last week with 25 cases report
ed by the Bryan-Brazos county
health unit. Strept throat was sec
ond with 13 cases reported.

Graduation announcements may
he picked up Monday in the stu
dent activities office, second floor
of Goodwin hall. Cards that were
ordered to go with the announce
ments will also he ready Monday.
