Thursday, May 5, 1955 THE BATTALION Page 3 At Denton, Austin Aggies To Finish Pre-SWC Track A&M’s varsity and freshman track team wind up their pre-conference competition in Denton and Austin, the Cadets meeting Abilene Christian and North Texas State tonight, and the Fish taking on the University of Texas and Rice frosh and Victoria junior college. It is the final action of the season for the Aggies before the Southwest conference meet at Houston May 13-14. To day’s freshman meet replaces a dual with Rice that was frozen out at Houston in March. Coach Frank Anderson predicts a close varsity meet. “Abilene Christian and North Texas both have good track teams, and also have some good field men,” he said. He “♦predicted some heated compe tition for Aggie hurdlers Tig, ;ers Down Chester 11-3, Win Bi-District A&M Consolidated used 14 hits and six errors to fashion an 11-3 victory over Chester yesterday in Huntsville and win the bi-district champion ship for the second straight year. Manuel Garcia went all the way for CHS, giving up only four hits in winning his fifth game in six decisions. Norman Floeck’s single scoring Travis Englebrecht in the second gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead. They batted 12 men and scored six runs on four hits in the third to wrap up the win. A two-run double by J. B. Car- roll and run-scoring singles by Englebrecht and Winfred Pardue highlighted the frame. Carroll and Pardue were the game’s lead ing hitters with 3 for 5. Chester,/'the district 51-B titlist, scored its runs in the sixth on an error and two hits, including a triple. The victory closes out the Inter scholastic league season for the Tigers, since class B schools do not play beyond bi-district. CHS meets Allen academy high school at 4 p.m. Friday at Tiger field in their season finale. Hollingsworth, who has done 14 flat in the highs with an aiding wind, runs up against Ken Kelley of NTS, who has a 14.3. Mack Clark of ACC has done 23 flat in the lows, compared to 1 Har- tung’s best of 23.3. Anderson wrote off the 440-relay for the opposition, since the Wild cats have a 41.3 and 41.4 with Bobby Morrow anchoring, and the Eagles a 41.6. A&M’s best is a 41.9. The Aggies’ improving mile re lay quartet could make trouble for the favored Eagles, who have won the event at the Border Olympics, West Texas, Texas and Drake Re lays. A&M was clocked in 3:14.9 in the Dallas invitational meet. Anchored by Paul Patterson, the Eagles have a 3:14.8. At Austin, the Texas frosh are the meet favorite on the strength of a 40-point victory over the Fish at Austin March 5 in a triangular with University of Houston. Assistant Coach Ray Putnam and 30 Freshmen left this morning by bus. Emmett Smallwood, who held the nation’s fastest low hurdle time, a 22.8, ran an exhibition 22.9 dur ing the junior college meet at Kyle field. He alsb has a 9.6 100 and a 22-11% broad jump to his credit. He will also anchor the 440 relay and throw the shot. Fish Meet Allen On Varsity Field Murray Trimble takes the mound for the Aggie Fish against Allen academy today as they try for their fourth staright win. Game time is 3 p.m. at the Kyle field diamond. The Fish have split two games with Allen, losing 6-8 here early in the season and winning 12-4 Tuesday in Bryan. Trimble has pitched only 3 1/3 innings this year, giving up two hits, no earned runs, striking out four and walking one. Rightfielder Ed Dudley leads Fish batters with a booming .500 on 13 hits in 26 trips. He has three doubles, a triple and eight RBI’s.
