Loeffler Looks
At First Squad
. Their second day of practice
mder Coach Ken Loeffler was a
Iturdy one for the Aggie basket-
Call players yesterday, as the new
pigineer of what is hoped will be
j bright future took a long look
jt the squad he starts with.
Loeffler worked out a 35-man
quad for an hour and a half, and
(fter it was over, had high pi-aise
( or Fritzie Connally, the 6-2 Ms
jophomore who has high jumped
J -5 in track and easily dunks a
asketball.
j “Connally is the most finished
-jail player out there,” Loeffler
aid. “I don’t see how I can keep
.im off the team. You could tell
(hat in the first three seconds.”
1 Playing in only eight games as
, freshman last season because he
- jinished his first-year eligibility in
February, Connally averaged 15.2
•oints and 11 rebounds per game.
( Loeffler also had some kind words

ordnance easily pushed past A
-hemical, 2-0; D infantry edged
quadron 16, 2-1; squadron 1 turned
Jack B field artillery, 2-1; and
Tquadron 17 slipped past C field
Ltillery, 2-1.
Squadron 15 pasted B armor,

BIG ‘LITTLE MO’
t SAN DIEGO, Calif. </P)—Tennis
r hampion Maureen Connolly has
-jjeen reading mountains of mail
s nnce announcing her plans to re-
ire from tennis and become a
^iousewife.
But the letter she said she likes
^best of all is one from Frankfurt,
.jermany, that’s addressed simply:
‘Little Mo, U.S. Tennis Champ.”
for Georg*e Mehaffey, 6-4 junior
center who averaged 13.0 in con
ference play and led in rebounds
for the 12 SWC games.
For the first 15 minutes, the
squad lessened up shooting baskets,
then Loeffler played a team of
veterans and a sophomore against
a predominantly sophomore five
for 50 minutes, showing his offense
to the rest of the squad.
On one team, Loeffler had Bill
Brophy, 6-3 senior and the 1954
scoring leader; Mehaffey; John
Fortenberry, who averaged 12.0
over the full season; Ted Harrod,
6-0 junior who started the last six
or eight games; and 6-6 Jeff Pen-
field, a sophomore.
The other five was composed of
A1 Love, 6-5 senior, and sophs
Ted Dockery, 6-5, Connally, John
Lesikar, 6-7, and Carter Williams,
6-4.
Loeffler again emphasized the
“every man a king” angle of his
“incentive basketball” to his new
squad. In Loeffler’s style, every
pass results in a double screen. If
the player with the ball doesn’t
find a hole in the defense, he
passes to another and goes on to
screen.
“You help me and I help you” is
the way Loeffler puts it.

There will be a meeting of the Texas
A & M Chapter of.the American Associa
tion of University Professors Thursday
April 14th in the Cabinet Room in the
YMCA. The officers for the coming year
will be installed following which a program
consisting of twelve 5-minute talks by men
from different college departments will be
held. The subject of these talks will be the
jobs which these men held with industry^
last summer. At the conclusion of these
talks a member from the college placement
office will be present to sum up the pro
gram and answer questions. Inasmuch as
summer employment is one of the major
problems here the program should prove
highly informative and interesting. AH
members of the teaching staff are cordially
invited.
