They beat Princeton 14 out of 16 games and Harvard 15 out of 16. While at LaSalle, Loeffler says he never lost a game to a team playing either a set pivot or a zone defense, and he never lost to a New York team. Why did he leave LaSalle, where everyone except Gola re turns from last season’s NCAA finalists? Loeffler says, “This was a challenge, and I like chal lenges. Life is a series of them. Why does the millionaire go out and build a doghouse?” Another big reason was that he wanted his six-year-old son, Ken neth II (“call him Dusty”), to grow up in a college town instead of a big city. THIS IS ON HIM Loeffler, who holds a law degree, is writing a book on basketball, and once ran a dude ranch, likes to tell of the first time Gola reported for practice. The fabulous all-American had received offers from 47 schools but still had chosen LaSalle — for a number of rea, sons. He had prac ticed on the Explorer court while G . r f. nd faster, membei-s and j n hjgp school, lived just off the visiting brethren cordially in- 0 j j campus, had close friends there and was a Catholic, while LaSalle is a Catholic denominational school. When Gola walked out on the court, Loeffler walked up to him, stuck out his hand, and said, “I’m Coach Loeffler, Tom, what do you want me to do?” A wonderful place to buy or sell.
