The score was Blues 21, Maroons 7 yesterday at the end of a 30 minute scrimmage between the two elevens, highlighting A&M’s 11th day of spring football prac tice. With Bobby Conrad," a 1054 freshman hot in pursuit of vet eran Elwood Kettlex-’s job, at the helm, the Blues scored first, then struck twice more after the Ma roons tied it. Ken Hall, the jet-fast fullback of last season’s Fish team, scored first for the Blues, intercepting a Kettler pass' and streaking about 35 yax*ds across the goal. • Guided .by Kettler, ..the Maroons; who had seven lettermen, lashed batk, with pint-sized halfback Billy Dendy,' another soph next fall, turning in a 50-yard dash around left end to set up the tally. Kettler- threw a short pass to end Dean Meeks for the. touch down, Meeks taking the ball away from two defenders. With the score 7-7, left half Carlos Esquivel shot through the left side and sped about 60 yards for the sec ond Blue score behind Hall’s block. A little later, Conrad, back in punt formation, raced about 45 yards deep into Maroon ground hut fumbled, with the vets recov ering. After a couple of first downs, Blue end Bobby Drake Keith recovered a Maroon fumble and then Conrad went hack to wo rk. He passed to Keith foi‘ about 10 yards. He went hack to pass again several plays later and dar ted through the left side, got a block from Hall and ran about' 25 yards to score. After that, head coach Paul Bryant sent the Blu.es in v and put up the Whites, quarterbacked by Donald Grant, against the Ma roons. With Billy Stevenson, Don Mc Clelland and Cliff Hamby — all sophomores next fall—in the hack- field, Grant dx-ove the Whites • to the 1, then sneaked over. With sophomore Jimmy Wright at quarterback, the Maroons drove to the 3, then Wright carried over. Fullback Roddy Osborne contrib uted a 25 yard gain, halfback Ed Dudley ii T5-yarder to the 10. Afterwards, Bryant had praise for Hall anti Esquivel. Hall was the first he singled out, then Bry ant said, “I thought Esquivel did well totlay, both qn .offense and defense.” He said, “Our line is improving on ‘explosive’ speed, but . we don’t move them out when we have to go up the middle.” Halfbacks Don Watson and Gene Henderson, - who started for the Maroons Satux-day night, have missed this week’s two wdrkouts.
