In the opener of the SWC swim ming season, the Mustangs scored 66 points to A&M’s G4. Texas fin ished third with 62. Rice, compet ing in swimming for the first time, had 12. The Aggies won the breaststroke I’elay and the double medley relay. They were second in the backstroke relay and the distance medley. Texas, A&M and SMU would have tied for first with 64 each if the Steers had finished second ahead of the Ponies in the final event, the double medley. But A&M won it, Dick Hunkier holding off SMU’s Phil Vaiden in the final lap. Coach Art Adamson’s team opens its home season Saturday, meeting Northwest Louisiana State at 2:30 p.m. There will be no admission charge. The summaries: 16-length free style relay: 1.
