Societies and
The beginning of school marks olution chose “Foster True Patiiot-
not only a sudden flurry of school
activities, but also brings to life
the work of a number of the local
clubs and societies. Both the or
ganizations which have been dor
mant during summer months and
the clubs which have persisted de
spite the heat take a new interest
in planning the year’s programs.
A number of the local clubs
have reported their plans for the
year. -These, in addition to the
societies which have not yet charted
their fall schedule, will constitute
the greater part of the society
news for the year.
The American Association of
University Women does not pub
lish yearbooks. Instead it leaves
the schedule for the year relatively
free so that timely programs may
be presented to its members.
Officers for the association are
Mrs. Eugene Rush, president; Mrs.
Frank Powell, 1st vice-president;
Mrs. J. G. Potter, 2nd vice-presi
dent; Mrs. John H. Quisenberry,
secretary; Mrs. Sol Klein, treas
urer; Mrs. W. J. Dobson, historian;
Mrs. W. H. Delaplane, parliamen
tarian.
First meeting of the club will be
Sept. 20 in the social room of the
MSC at 7:45 p.m. The drama
group will present a one-act play.
The Extension Service Club will
offer pi'ograms of interest to wom
en as suggested by the Texas Fed
eration of Womens’ Clubs.

Children of the American Revo
lution is a society which is made
up of children up to the age of 18
whose ancestors took some part in
the American Revolution.
A&M Garden Club meets the sec
ond Friday of each month with a
table of the month and an arrange
ment of the month being special
features. Also flowers grown by
the members in their gardens are
exhibited as the garden flowers of
the month.

TSCW Alumnae Association is
an ex-student association for wom
en who have attended Texas State
College for Women in Denton.
Purpose of the organization is to
promote the best interest of the
school and the newly established
College of Household Arts and
Sciences, foundation for home eco
nomics.

Brazos County A&M Mothers’
Club has as its main project to
earn money for a scholarship to be
given some Brazos County junior
student at A&M. It is to be used
for school fees his senior year.
A game party is planned for
later in the fall to earn money for
the scholarship.
A tea in April will honor nurses
at the college hospital.
Officers are Mrs. Ide Trotter,
president; Mrs. Fred Weick, vice-
president; Mrs. Spencer Buchanan,
secretary; Mrs. A. P. Boyett, treas
urer; Mrs. W. L. Penberthy, re
porter; Mrs. A. C. Magee, parlia
mentarian.
The Aggie Wives Bridge Club
plans its first meeting for next
Thursday night in the Chapel Room
of the YMCA. Membership is open
to students’ wives, wives of college
sljaff members and women staff
members.
. Tutors are provided for those
who have never played bridge be
fore, and classes are planned so
that the women can play according
to their skill at the game. The
intermediate class is for those who
have played bridge only a small
bit, and the regular class is for
the members who are more expe
rienced at the game.
Officers for- the first school
semester are Margaret Jones, pres
ident; Jeannette Williams, vice-
president; Nancy Larson, secreta
ry; Ada Lee Williams, treasurer;
and Ailene Stutts, reporter.
College Women’s Social Clubs
provides a program of six socials
a year for wives of college em
ployees and staff members and also
women college staff members. The
club meets the fourth Friday of
each month with exception of No
vember and December.
First social is planned for Sept.
24 at 3 p.m. in the ballroom of the
MSC. The tea will honor new
members.
