S. O’Bannon, new presi dent of the Foods group of the A&M Social club, and Mrs. E. B. Reynolds, new program chairman, led the club in a discussion of pro grams for the next year at its meeting Friday. The group decided on a theme of “menus from famous inns.” Mrs. C. F. Richardson, retiring president, led a business session, and Mrs. G. L. Huebner, seci'etary- treasurer, read her report. After the luncheon, which featur ed salads, Mrs. Huebner gave an account of the origin and history of salads. Mrs. John S. McCannon was hostess for the luncheon. Greet ing members at the door, she gave each member a place card in the form of a May basket, directing them to one of the six tables, each set for 10 persons. Each of the tables was centered with a Maypole arrangement. Many-colored streamers from the poles were anchored away from the base of the pole by tiny cor sages of spring flowers. Luncheon was served from a buf fet table overlaid with a white banquet cloth. The buffet table also had a Maypole decoration in the center, with six small dolls around the base, each holding a streamer. The committee in charge of the luncheon was Mrs. Huebner and Mi's. T. R. Holleman, co-chairmen, and Mesdames H. T. Blackhurst, William Kammlade, W. J. Morris, Frank Lawyer, C. M. Taylor, J. S. McCannon. BEYOND BELIEF DETROIT—(^)—The first time the man came into court charged with stealing canned goods from a hospital where he worked, he ex plained: “I found out someone else had stolen the stuff and I was just returning it.” Recorder’s Judge Joseph Gillis cocked a quizzical eye, but found him innocent. Two weeks later the man was back before the judge, with this ex planation of 14 one-pound bags of coffee found by a hospital guard who noticed a suspicious bulge un der the defendant’s coat: “I knew someone else was plan ning to steak this coffee, so I just decided to take it first.” The man got 90 days in jail.
