Fish Win 7-5; Ags Defeated 5-4
Holliday’s Homer Gives
Fish Extra-Inning Win
By J. EARSEL CARRELL
Battalion Sports Staff
Bobby Holliday’s towering 360-foot blast over the left-
center field fence in the face of a strong north wind drove in
two runs in the eleventh inning and gave the Fish a 7-5 vic
tory over the Baylor Cubs Monday, in Kyle Field.
Dick Munday was the winning pitcher, hurling ten-hit
ball to gain his fourth victory of
the season with one loss. Munday
struck out eight Cubs and walked
four.
With the score tied 5-5 at the
end of nine innings, the Fish load
ed the bases with none out in the
tenth, only to have the Cubs pull
the outstanding defensive play of
the day. Lew Blood of the Fish
lined out to left field to start a
brilliant triple play, with Cadet
Billy Ross caught off at third and
Aggie second baseman Lupe Fraga
at second as the play went from
Tony Degrazier to Buddy Brazil
to Del Shofner.
The Fish scored a run in the first
when Bill White doubled and scor
ed on the Cub centerfielder’s mis-
cue with two out. Two more runs
scored in the second when Holli
day doubled to open the inning,
Bob Gattis doubled him in and Dick
Bleckner flied out to bring Gattis
in after Munday singled him to
third.
The Cubs tied it up in the fifth
and went ahead in the eighth at
4- 3 when Matt Miller singled in
Shofner. The F^ish scored two
runs in the same inning to take a
5- 4 lead bn Munday’s leadoff sin
gle, Bleckner’s sacrifice and Fra-
ga’s run-scoring single. White
then singled in Fraga.
Jerry Mallett doubled in Paul
Buchanan to tie the ball game up.

SWC Tilts Cause
Tie for No. 2 Slot
Based on AP Reports
A thorough mixing of standings in the Southwest con
ference baseball race resulted yesterday from the four SWC
games played.
Only league-leading Texas and cellar-ridden Rice were
unaffected by the action. Texas needs only two more wins to
cinch the SWC crown.
The Aggies dropped to third
place following their defeat by
Baylor. The Bears replaced A&M
in second place. TCU, losing to
Texas, stayed in third place. SMU,
splitting a double-header with the
hapless Owls, remained in their
fourth place position.
In Waco yesterday, Baylor scor
ed a run in the eighth and another
in the ninth to overtake A&M, 5-4.
Sophomore Gary Freeman dou
bled home Mickey Sullivan with
the winning run.
Baylor had tied it up in the
eighth when Tom Anderson walked,
took third on Jerry Dykeman’s
single and scored on Allen Lucas’
fly to left.
Don Ellis had homered in the
seventh to put the Aggies ahead,
4-3. Big Fred Gottlieb notched his
second conference victory against
no defeats, yielding six hits.
Mickey Sullivan continued his
heavy hitting for Baylor, getting
two hits in three trips.
Southpaw Joe Hardgrove of
A&M was the loser;
DALLAS—Tommy Bowers pitch
ed SMU to a 14-7 victory in the
first game of a double-header with
Rice Monday. The Owls won the
extra-inning nightcap, 4-1, with a
three run ninth inning rally.
Bowers struck out a dozen Owls
as he chalked up his fourth vic
tory against two defeats. The SMU
righthander surrendered six hits,
and walked three.
Blaine Gets Two Firsts
In Dallas Quad Meet
The Aggies’ Jim Blaine, distance
runner, scored a double victory Sat
urday in Dallas, winning both the
mile and two-mile runs in the quad
rangular meet with SMU, Texas
and Southern Cal.
Blaine was second-highest in the
meet in points, and was outscored
only by Les Koch of the Trojans
who won the discus and javelin
and came in second in the shot put
for a total of 13 points. Blaine
had 10.
Other Aggies scoring points in
the meet were Bobby Gross, first
in shot with a 52-6 heave; James
Earle, who tied for second in the
pole vault with a 12-0 leap; Pete
Mayeaux and Tom Dollahite, sec
ond and third in javelin; Tom Bo-
nordeh, fourth in shot; Dollahite
FORT WORTH—Held to three
unearned runs for seven innings,
Texas finally broke through Tom
my Hill for one in the eighth and
then added two more in the ninth
under its own power for a 6-3
Southwest Conference baseball vic-
tory over TCU Monday.
Until the final innings it was a
stirring pitching duel between Hill
and Texas’ Boyd Linker. The Long
horn ace was touched for seven
hits, three in the first inning, and
two earned runs while Hill was
tossing a four-hitter.

WHY do thousands of college smokers from coast
to coast prefer Luckies to all other brands?
BECAUSE Luckies taste better.
WHY do Luckies taste better?
BECAUSE Lucky Strike means fine tobacco. And
that tobacco is toasted to taste better. “It’s
Toasted”—the famous Lucky Strike process—
brings fine tobacco to its peak of flavor . . . tones
up this light, mild, good-tasting tobacco to make
it taste even better—cleaner, fresher, smoother.
SO, Be Happy—Go Lucky. Enjoy the better
