Page 4 THE BATTALION Thursday, April 8, 1954 Freshmen Stop Tar let on 1.0-4 Fraga Does Fine Relief Work By J. EARSEL CARRELL ~\ Battalion. Sports Writer ^ Lupe Zammarron Fraga, who has a rather difficult name to pronounce, proved even more difficult to hit as he turned back the Tarleton State Plowboys with fine relief hurling to give the Fish a 10 to 4 victory here Wednesday. Fraga, a former all-stater from St. Thomas high school (Houston), relieved starter Doug Mullins in the third inning with the bases loaded with Plowboys, two outs and with a 5-3 Fish lead TRIANGLE’S SPECIAL Businessmen’s Lunch FRIDAY, APRIL 9 CHOICE OF ONE — (1) Shrimp Creole with Rice (2) Chicken Fried Steak (Choice two Vegetables) DESSERT — Jello BEVERAGE—Tea or Coffee TRIANGLE Drive-In Lounge Try Crowflite Gas ant Triangle Station NOW SHOWING HERBERT J. He promptly forced Plowboy Will Hunt to ground into a force play at second and silenced the Tarleton team bats with only four hits and one run through the remaining six innings. Mullins deserved a better fate, giving up only two hits in his short stay, but seven walks got him in too much hot water and Fraga had to relieve. Lew Blood, Dick Bleckner and Skeeter Wilson paced the Fish at the plate. Wilson led off with a triple in the first inning to start the Fish on a four-run outburst. Bleckner singled Wilson in, John Hoyle sacrificed Bleckner to sec ond and both runners advanced on the Tarleton second baseman’s ov erthrow at first. Bob Holliday walked and Blood followed with a two run single to center. Holliday scored from third on an error and Wilson grounded out to end the inning. Wayne Griffith started for the Plowboys and was charged with the loss. Joe Ingraham relieved in the third and pitched creditable ball until a five-run Fish outburst in the sixth chased him to the showers. Tarleton rallied in the third for three runs after the Fish had scored a run in the second to take a 5-0 lead. Four walks and singles by Bob Davenport and Howie Meissner ac counted for the Plowboy runs with Hunt forcing Webb Bishop at sec ond to end the threat. Two consecutive singles and a Fish error gave Tarleton a run off Fraga in, the sixth to cut the Fish lead to 5-4. But singles by Fraga, Hoyle and Bryon Andrews, along with two walks and a hit batsman gave the Fish five big runs in the sixth frame and a 10 to 4 victory. Leading hitter for Tarleton was Meissner with two singles in five trips to the plate and two RBI’s.
