Ags First Loss Comes as Homer
In First Wins for Minnesota 4-3
CIRCLE
TODAY thru FRIDAY

Ronald Craven set the Aggies
down with three hits in his five
inning stint to gain his first vic
tory and the Gophers their second
straight win of the season.
Craven gave up three unearned
runs in the second and was relieved
by Virgil Miller who came on in
with the loss after giving up all
four of the Minnesota runs in the
first inning. He was relieved by
Ed Henning in the fourth and Lou
Little came on in the seventh.
It was Hardgrove’s first loss
after winning his first outing. Lit
tle pitched effective ball the last
three innings holding the Gophers
runless and hitless.
In the first inning, Bob Koempt-
gen led off with a walk and was
doubled in by Keith Eastman. Jim
Morrison, A&M third baseman,
erred on Gene Steiger’s hot ground
ball and then Anderson came
through with his drive over the
340 foot mark in left field.
After ,going hitless in the first
inning the Aggies came back in
the second with two singles and a
walk coupled with two Gopher er
rors to tally three unearned runs.

Les Byrd popped out to short to
lead off the inning, followed by
Eric Miller’s walk.
Bob Pendor singled to send Mil
ler to second. Jimmy Williams hit
to short and the Gopher second
baseman erred on the throw with
all hands safe. Miller then tallied
when Joe Hardgrove hit an infield
fly and the first baseman dropped
it for an error. Craven balked and
Pendor scored.
Jimmy Dishman lashed a single
to right field to score Williams and
Jim Parish forced out Dishman at
second to end the inning.
The Gophers led 4 to 3 and that
was the way it ended, although
A&M threatened in the eighth.
Frank Stockton started things
in the eight with a single and was
sacrificed to second. Byrd singled
him to third and on an attempted
double steal Stockton was out at
the plate on a very close call.
Tiger Netters Lose
A&M Consolidated high school
tennis team loss 4-6 to Lamar Con
solidated yesterday at Rosenberg.
A&M Consolidated’s Fred Ander
son defeated Bobby Atkins, 6-1,
6-4.
Tiger Bobby Jackson lost to
Atkins in three sets, 6-4, 2-6, 7-5.
A&M Consolidated’s B u b b a
Englebrecht was defeated by Redge
Traylor, 6-4, 6-4.
Tiger Roland Beasley lost to
Robert Gardner, 6-3, 6-3.
In the doubles, Jackson and
Beasley Avon over Jerry Dolnick
and Gardner 6-0, 6-3 while Ander
son and Englebrecht defeated Do
nick and Traylor, 6-2, 6-3.

Netters Today
The A&M tennis team plays
the University of Houston
this afternoon at 2 p.m. in
Houston.
The Cadet squad will go in
to this match with a 5-3 win record
with wins over Southeastern Okla
homa University, Southern Louis
iana University and Baylor, and
and losses to LSU, Lamar Tech
and Hardin-Simons.
Members of the varsity squad
who will play include Bill Ash-
burn, Gene Kinard, Ronnie Wolff,
Frank Holbrook and Bob Kerr.
The undefeated once-tied fresh
man tennis team competing are
Gordon Glover, Jake Harper, Don
Dixon and Tom Morrison.
The Aggie tennis team will be
host to Baylor thin Saturday. The
Cadets have beaten Baylor twice,
once in Waco 7-0 and once here 7-0.
W. M. Dowell, the tennis coach,
will accompany the group to Hous
ton.
All Intramural Rifle Team mem
bers will meet at the Rifle Range
today after drill, according to Bar
ney Welch, Intramural Director.
Intramural Rifle will begin Mon
day.
Wrestling
Wrestling finals will be in De-
Ware Field House, Tuesday, March
30, at 7:30 p.m. A gymnastic
show will idso be featured in con
nection with the wrestling finals.
Ping Pong
Sqd. 7 beat Sqd. 6 in Intramural
Ping Pong, Wednesday, 3-2. Sqd.
7 will play A Armor today. A
Athletics and White Band, other
play-off teams, will play today al
so. The winners of these two
games will play for the champion
ship Monday.
Volleyball
Sqd. 10’s Doug Scott led his
Intramural Volleyball team to twoS
straight victories over Sqd. 15,
who were unable to control the
spiking of Scott. Other standouts
were Joe Hall of Sqd. 15 and Jim
Deslattes of Sqd. 10.
A Armor beat M Band in two
very close intramural volleyball
games, Wednesday. Outstanding
players for A Armor were John
ny Moritz and Averitte. A1 Cordes
and Larry Lightfoot were stand
outs for M Band.
Fish To Play Blim
Today in Brenham
The Aggie Fish baseball team
travels to Brenham today to match
bats with Blinn junior college.
With a won two, lost none re
cord, the Fish go into the Blinn
game with a good chance of coming
out victors. Previous wins have
been over Stephen F. Austin (Bry
an) high school and Lamar (Hous
ton) high school.
