Reynolds have returned from the state conference of the Daugh ters of the American Revolution held in Austin last week. Mrs. Callender, chairman of the genealogical records committee, gave her report at the sessions. She also gave the report of the LaVillita chapter Wednesday and the chapter received a silver ribbon and was placed on the honor roll for outstanding work during the past year. Mrs. S. W. Bilsing, regent of the Mai’garet Montgomery chapter of Conroe and honorary regent of the La Villita group was at the confer ence. She organized both these chapters of the DAR. Speaker for the opening session Monday evening was Mrs. R. Henderson Shuffler who discussed American history and the dream of freedom. She reminded those present of the American heritage and warned the meeting against straying from the ideals of our forefathers. Foods Group Hears Speech On Vegetables Mrs. Fred Smith gave a talk on the preparation of vegetables at the A&M Social club Foods group meeting Friday. Mrs. Smith gave many helpful cooking hints and classified vege tables into five categories: acces sory, plain, exotic, everyday, and unusual vegetables. Also she gave a few of her favorite recipes. Each table had an attractive cen terpiece of green leafy vegetables in brown glass pots, and at either end was a colorful salad plate with dips. The buffet table was covered with a chocolate brown cloth and centered with a mahogany tray which held an original piece of sculpture by Mrs. J. N. Nance. On each side of this centerpiece were candlesticks made out of ears of corn. The serving dishes were pot- tery in colors of green, yellow, and purple each complimenting the veg etable the dish held. The committee responsible for the luncheon was chairman, Mrs. D. F. Leipper; co-chairman, Mrs. H. R. Blank; Mrs. G. D. Hallmark; and Mrs. R. V. Andrews. Also Mrs. W. R. McNeil, Mrs. H. O. Johnson, Mrs. C. F. Richard son, and Mrs. Carl Lyman, hostess. Following the luncheon, Mrs. I. G. Adams, program chairman, introduced the guest speaker, Mrs. Smith. Mrs. C. F. Richardson, president presided over the short business session, and Mrs. J. S. Dennison read the secretary-treasurer report. The next luncheon will be April 9. Teachers Attend District Meeting The district one convention of the southeast division of the Tex as State Teachers association was held at Beaumont last weekend. The theme of the convention was “A Century of Progress in Texas Education.” Teachers who attended the con vention were J. D. Chaney, Roy Owen, Mrs. Lewis A. Knowles, and Miss Ann Abate. Also Mrs. L. Choy spent seven months in 1953 on a preaching mission around the world with four of them being in Lucas To Speak To Meeting Of Professors Francis M. Lucas, resident representative for the office of naval research for the area, will speak at the American Association of University Pro fessors meeting at 7:30 p. m. Tues day. The meeting will be held in the Assembly room of the YMCA. “The Part That the College Pro fessor Plays in Government Re search”, will be the topic of his talk, with special interest to the office of Naval research. Lucas is a graduate of Metal lurgical engineering from Steph ens Institute in Newark College of Engineering, Newark, N. J. He also holds a bachelor of science in chemistry from St. Peters College, Jersey City, N. J. and a bachelor of law from Franklin University, Columbus, Ohio. Before coming to Austin in 1951, Lucas was a research engineer for vaidous steel companies since 1940, and in connection with the ONR since 1950. He was a research con tract administrator in Chicago be fore coming to Austin. Armistead Talks To Vet Wives Meet Dr. W. W. Armistead, dean of veterinary medicine, spoke to the AVMA auxiliary at their regular meeting in the MSC Thursday night. Dean Armistead gave the “His tory of Veterinary Medicine,” dis cussing the four broad periods of developement. During the business meeting plans were made for a dance and cake sale. Proceeds will be used to send a delegate, Mrs. Robbie Sims, to the National Convention in Seattle, Washington. Mrs. A. A. Price, co-sponsor, an nounced a tea will be given May 1, honoring the senior wives at the residence of Mrs. W. W. Arm istead on the Knoll. The junor wives were hostesses for the evening with Mrs. Arm istead presiding at the punch bowl. While in Korea, Choy was able to attend the eighth Korean Bap tist Convention and to preach in many of the Baptist churches which have been established since the close of World War II. During World War II, he served as an interpreter in the United States armed services, and spent some months in Korea following the war’s end. Easter Seal Drive To Begin Wednesday Mrs. Dwight W. Andres of College Station will direct the 21st annual Easter Seal ap peal in Brazos county to raise funds for cripple children and adults. The campaign opens Wednesday and continues through Easter Sun day, April 18. It will be conducted in every state in the United States and in the District of Columbia, Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico. In Brazos county, as well as in most other localities, Easter Seal funds are the chief means of sup port for services to the handicap ped, regardless of the cause of the handicap. Of all the funds raised in this area during the campaign, 91 per cent remain in the area to develop local services. Nine per cent will be sent to the National Society for Crippled Children and Adults, to support its parent program of edu cation, research and direct services. The envelopes containing the Easter Seals, prepared by the Brazos-Robertson county medical auxiliary and wives of the Medical Group of BAFB, will be mailed to local residents on March 24. Fashion Show Set For Newcomers A style show and luncheon will be presented for the Newcomers’ club at 12:45 p. m. Wednesday. The show, featuring Easter fashions, will be held at The Oaks. Models for the style show will be Mesdames O. H. Franks, Willie Zapalac, D. F. McGee, Charles Hol land, R. V. Hite, John Way, John Me Cannon, and H. Thigpen.
