Aden Magee, pres ident, introduced Prof. Southern to the group. Prof. Southern has been a mem ber of two U. S. government food and agricultural missions to Pakis tan. He showed slides to illustrate his comments on the people and the country. According to Prof. Southern, Pakistan is held together as a na tion largely through the religious tie, most of the people being mem bers of the Moslem faith. Largely on this religious basis, Prof. South ern pointed out, Pakistan consists of east and west Pakistan, the one separated from the other by over 1,000 miles with India and its people intervening. Bob Shrode and the Rev. Nolan Vance reported on the Houston meeting honoring Bishop Smith for 20 years of service in the Metho dist ministry. Oliver, vice-president of the San Juan Oil Company, Dallas, and a 1940 graduate of A&M, was the principal speaker at a banquet when the scholarships were award ed. Students and awards were: James R. Bilharts of Brecken- ridge, $750 scholarship from Mag nolia Petroleum Company, present ed by D. V. Carter of Dallas, chief engineer of the firm; Tillotson B. Field jr. of Lockhart and Robert E. McCarley of Mc Kinney, $500 scholarships each from Standard Oil Company of Texas, presented by C. M. Moncrief of Houston; Ralph F. Cox of Dallas, $500 cholarship from Lane-Wells Com pany, presented by Robert M. Rutledge of Houston; Albln J. Zak jr. of Bryan, scholarship of $450 cash plus tuition and fees from the California Company, presented by James M. Pinson, a senior student joining the firm this summer; Donald L. Barksdale of San An tonio, Marvin H. Ford of Houston, and Robert T. Miller of Bishop, the George P. Mitchell award to out standing junior students, presented by the guest speaker. Zak was the only junior among the scholarship winners, the others being seniors. Bilharts also was presented a watch as the Mitchell Award to the outstanding student in the 1954 graduating class. Olive addressed the assembly of about 80 students and guests on the topic, “What Industry Expects of Fish Baseballers To Meet Lamar Friday The Aggie Fish baseball team will meet Lamar high school of Houston Friday at 3 p.m. at Kyle field. Aggie Tennis Team Plays Hardin Simmons Today The Aggie tennis team will play Hardin Simmons here today. They have a 2-2 recoi'd so far this sea son. Gene Kinard, sophomore engi neering student from Beaumont, will be playing number one man for the Cadets. Kinard was a fresh men standout last year. Ronald Wolf, the only letterman, will be in the number two spot. Also playing will be Bill Ashburn, sophomore, Bob Kerr, sophomore, and Frank Holdbrook a junior. Carl Nunn will be leading the Cowboys against the Cadets. He was a stand-out player for Cow boys for the last two years. They will also have Wayne Miller, sophomore, who while in high school was a State finalist for two years. The Aggies played Baylor at Waco, the first of a series in the season, to get in shape for the Bears courts. The Conference will be held there this year. Saturday the varsity and the fish will play Abilene Christian here. Oil Proxy Warns Policy Makers FORT WORTH, March 18—CP)— The president of the Texas Mid- Continent Oil and Gas Assn, said last night a downward trend in Texas position as an oil state should be a warning to those who make public policy affecting petro leum. Harry Bass of Dallas spoke to oil operators. “I can’t believe Texans want to see their No. 1 industry kicked downhill with unwise public policy affecting oil and gas production,” Bass said. “It is time for some sober think ing on the part of all Texas Busi ness for our relative position to slip a few fractions a year.” Save Your Money!
