hood Tuesday night on I’akistan,
its people and its problems.
About 25 men attended the
monthly supper. Aden Magee, pres
ident, introduced Prof. Southern to
the group.
Prof. Southern has been a mem
ber of two U. S. government food
and agricultural missions to Pakis
tan. He showed slides to illustrate
his comments on the people and the
country.
According to Prof. Southern,
Pakistan is held together as a na
tion largely through the religious
tie, most of the people being mem
bers of the Moslem faith. Largely
on this religious basis, Prof. South
ern pointed out, Pakistan consists
of east and west Pakistan, the one
separated from the other by over
1,000 miles with India and its
people intervening.
Bob Shrode and the Rev. Nolan
Vance reported on the Houston
meeting honoring Bishop Smith for
20 years of service in the Metho
dist ministry. Rudolph Leighton re
ported on the area layman’s meet
ing at Brenham.

Oil Proxy Warns
Policy Makers
FORT WORTH, March 18—CP)—
The president of the Texas Mid-
Continent Oil and Gas Assn, said
last night a downward trend in
Texas position as an oil state
should be a warning to those who
make public policy affecting petro
leum.
Harry Bass of Dallas spoke to
oil operators.
“I can’t believe Texans want to
see their No. 1 industry kicked
downhill with unwise public policy
affecting oil and gas production,”
Bass said.
“It is time for some sober think
ing on the part of all Texas Busi
ness for our relative position
to slip a few fractions a year.”
