As onl two 123 pounders entered in that division, each is automati cally in the finals. Tiny Allen of A Eng will tangle with J. D. 'Mintz of B F Ato determine the champ. As neither of these boys has had an opponent it will be a toss up to who will win. Jesse Lopez of AAA outpointed Taylor Greene of Sq. 7 on Tuesday March 3 to the tune of 4-2. This win gives Jesse an opportunity to de-throne Bob Beattie of A Eng in the 130 lb. weight class. Beattie, the 1953 Champ, has won three bouts without any trouble to ad vance to the finals and will be try ing’ for his second consecutive crown jn the 130 lb. class. Dick Cappell, the 1954 Fish Champ in the 147 lb. class will have his hands full of crow as he meets A1 Crow, of AAA, the 1953 Fish 137 lb. champ. Both of these boys are good wrestlers and are in very good shape, so this should prove to be a very hard fought bout. Bill Gilbert of Sq. 10 who was runner up in the Fish 147 lb. class last year will meet Rudy Henson of Sq. 7 for the 1954 147 Champ. Henson is the defending champion and has yet to lost a wrestling match since his entrance into A& M. Jerry Pyle, another Sq. 7 wrest ler (they have 4 men in the finals) will be put in the awkward position of haying to wrestle a Squadron buddy as he meets Bill Andrews in the 157 lb. class. Neither of these boys are defending champs—Pyle lost to Henson in the 147 lb. class iast year while Bill was losing to TODAY & FRIDAY AN EDMUND GRAINGER rsooucnoM 'S? "DANGEROUS , WHEN ' WET†■' COLOR BY TECHNICOLOR Bob Rowland in the 137 lb. class. So both were runner-ups last year and one of them is going to be a runner-up this year. Sq. 7 still has a good record—they had five wrest lers entered; four are in the finals and one, Taylor Greene, was de feated in the semi-finals. Rusty Myers of ATC won a ref erees decision over J. B. Lilly of Sqg. which gives him a shot at the 167 championship. He will meet either A1 Rial of AAA or John DeWald of Sq. 11. These two boys will square off on Thursday to de termine who will have the honor of meeting Rusty. John had to go to the Mardi-Gras with the Ross Volunteers, therefore the match had to be put off till he returns. Neither of these boys got past the quarter-finals last year so we will have another toss up as to who will the 1954 champ be. Two more new comers will battle for the 177 lb. class as Bill Nourie of Sq. 3 meets Charles Nations of Sq. 11. Don’t believe either of these boys wrestled Intramurals last year so we have another toss up as hot hhave won 3 bouts with out too much trouble. Katchik In 191 Class Don Katchik, the fullback of grid iron fame, is still in the running for the 191 class. As stated prev iously, Don has the makings of a very good wrestler, altho he has only worked out this one year. He will meet a very strong boy who can wrestle the best of them in big Bob “Red†Goble of B Ini’.• Another footballer, Lawrence Winkler, who pinned the Texas U. boy last Saturday in just, over two minutes, will be trying for his first championship when he meets Jack Winterrowd of A Armor. Both of these boys will weigh over 215 and both are good fast big men, something you, don’t see too pinch of in big boys., Winkler lost out last year in the quarter finals while this is the* first year for Winter rowd to wrestle. Not only will all the Upperclass bouts be close and interesting, but the Fish will be in there battling all the way when they get on the mat. Not as much is known about them as is the Upperclassmen, be cause this is the first year for most of them to wrestle, D. G. Riemer of Sq. 19 will meet Alvaro Clachar of Sq. 22 in the 123 lb. class. Both are small, but very wiry for little boys. Only two entered the 130 lb. class, Gere Hattox of Co. F and Paul Breen of Sq. 19. Breen lost a close de cision to the Texas U. boy here last Saturday, but he has the mak ings of a very good 130-lb. wrest ler. As Hattox hasn’t wrestled yet it is hard to know just how good he is. Freshman Wrestlers - D. F. Garles of Co. L will match wits and strength with R. Best in the 137 lb. class. Best has proven best in one match, the only one he’s had, while Caries has had to win only one to get to the finals. D. Hogan, Co. G and F. W. Coop er of Co. D will meet to sec who gets the medal in the 157 lb. class. Charles Jenkins of Sq. 22 will see if the Air Force can pin the Ground Force in Tommy Sudderth of Co. F for the 147 championship. Carl McGee, the All-American Footballer from Dallas and Sq. 22 will see if he can make all Intra mural in wrestling when he meets James Hutchinson of Sq. 21 for the 167 champ. Kenneth Jones, Sq 21 pinned the best Texas U. had in 2:19, but may run into a little trouble with the best that Co. B or Co. I has, as he meets the winner of the yet undecided bout between A. A.* Croix of Co. B and E. L. Autrey of Co. I. These two boys will meet on Thursday after noon at 5:00 to determine which will wrestle Jones in the finals.
