Mrs. Darwall Is
Hostess for DAR
Mrs. Robert Darwall and Mrs.
Don Dale were co-hostesses for the
meeting- of the La Villita chapter
of the Daughters of the American
Revolution at Mrs. DarwalPs home
last night.
As the members arrived, they
presented clothing, school supplies,
toys and books to Mrs. John Mit
chell to be sent to one of the ap
proved DAR schools in North Car
olina.
The opening ritual was led by
Mrs. Daniels Scoates. Regent Mrs.
R. E. Patterson presided over the
meeting. Miss Kate Odele Hill and
American Indians
Are CAR Program
A program about the American
Indians was held at the meeting of
the Brazos de Dios Society of the
Children of the American Revolu
tion Tuesday evening at the home
of Mrs. F. B. Brown jr., North
Oakwood.
The meeting was opened with the
CAR prayer led by Pamela Sperry.
The Pledge of Allegiance to the
flag was led by Jerry Nance.
Sharon Patterson, president,
presided over the business meet
ing, and plans were made for a
trip to the site of a shoe factory
near Wheelock, where shoes were
made for the Confederate army
during the War Between the
States.
The program was then present
ed by Mrs. F. B. Brown III and was
illustrated by cut-outs showing the
different types of homes, clothing
and transportation method, used by
Indian tribes.
Punch and cookies were served
carrying out a happy birthday
theme in honor of Susan Brown
and Virginia Ann Patterson, whose
birthdays are in November.
The next meeting will be a
Christmas party at home of Jerry
Nance.
Baby Shower Held
At Band Wives Meet
A suprise baby shower for Betty
Scott was given by the Band
Wives club Tuesday night at the
home of Mrs. Dan Alexander.
Plans were made for a picnic for
band husbands and wives to be held
Nov. 21 at Camp Arrowmoon.
Tentative plans were also dis
cussed for a Christmas spaghetti
dinner.
The group voted to pack a food
basket for a needy family for
Christmas. Each member will do
nate a food item, and the remain
der of the basket will be made up
from the dues fund.
The table for the baby shower
Was centered with a pink cake and
a blue one. All the baby gifts
were arranged in a blue bassinet.
The next meeting will be held
Dec. 1 at the home of Thelma Zak,
club president.
Mrs. Delaplane
Is Guest Speaker
Mrs. Walter Delaplane was guest
speaker for the student wife sec
tion of the A&M Presbyterian
church circle meeting Wednesday
night in the home of Mrs. Sally
Hightower, College View.
Mrs. Delaplane reviewed “Jacob’s
Ladder”. Plans were made to give
some needy couple or family in this
area a Thanksgiving basket.
After the meeting refreshments
wei-e served. The next scheduled
meeting will be Dec. 9 in the home
of Mrs. Heidi England, 6-17-B, Col
lege View.

Mesdames F. B. Brown jr., E. B.
Reynolds and R. E. Callender re
ported on the money raising cam
paign for the DAR Headquarters
in Austin.
Mrs. Patterson and Mrs. Brown
reported on the regional meeting in
Austin where Mrs. Callender re
ported on her progress as stgte
geneological chairman.
Mrs. Patterson was elected
senior president for the local
Children of the American Revolu
tion society.
Mrs. Reynolds then introduced
Mrs. Scpates as Eliza Pumpernick-
le from Clabber Creek in appro
priate costume, who gave an orig
inal essay on Thanksgiving.
She pointed out the blessings
that we have to be thankful for,
and then named the dangers still
facing us.
After the meeting refreshments
were served. The tea table was
covered with a grey linen cloth and
centered with a bouquet of yellow
chrysanthemums. Mrs. Patterson
presided at the table.
Varvel Speaks To
Child Study Club
Dr. W. A. Varvel of the psych
ology department spoke to the
meeting of the Child Study club
Tuesday at the home of Mrs. E.
R. Lemon.
In his talk on “Discipline Pro
blems” he said the concept of
discipline is a compromise between
the desires of the individual and
one’s conforming to the rules of
society.
He then discussed the compara
tive value of various home dis
cipline methods.
After the meeting, refreshments
were served with Mrs. Lemon and
Mrs. Don Longenecker acting as
hostesses.
The next meeting of the club will
be Dec. 8.
Barron to Speak
On Widow’s Problems
Judge W. S. Barron will speak
on “Wills and the Widow’s Fin
ancial Problem” at a meeting of
the Campus Study club in the
South Solarium of the YMCA at
3 p. m. Tuesday.
The club meets the first and
third Tuesday of each month.

“My Own Share” is the sermon
topic for services gt 11 a. m.
Sunday. Breakfast at 9 a. m. will
be followed by Sunday school at
9:45. The Presbyterian student
league meets at 6:30 P- m - follow
ed by evening worship at 7:30.
First Baptist Church
Rev. Bennie Griffin, returned
missionary from Nigeria will be

Band To Play
For Employes
Members of the A&M College
Employes Dinner club will dance to
the music of Claude Harris’ band
Thursday November 19, following
dinner at 7:30 p. m. in the Me
morial Student Center ballroom.
The Harris band, which uses
the Glenn Miller style, played for
the group last March. All of the
band’s 11 members are A&M Stu
dents.
Mrs. Charles Richardson is in
charge of tables and decorations,
and Lee Thompson is general
chairman of arrangements for the
evening.
Tickets for the dinner and dance
may be bought the main desk of
the MSC until 2 p. m. Wednesday.
Miss Smith Leaves
For Latin America
Miss Mae Belle Smith, acting
organization specialist for the Tex
as Agricultural Extension Service,
left Monday for an extensive tour
and study of extension work in
Latin American countries.
She will accompany Maurine
Hearne, who is returning from a
year’s leave of absence to work
for the Point Four program at
Bolivia.
Miss Smith will travel in Bolivia,
Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, Chile,
Peru and Panama. While in Peru,
she will visit with Louise Bryant
who is also working for Point Four
at Lima.
Miss Smith and Miss Hearne will
return to Bryan about December
15.
