The returns of halfback Elwood Kettler and guard Louis Capt means that the Aggies will be in their best physical condition in many weeks. The Cadets concentrated on an offensive scrimmage yesterday, after a defensive scrimmage Tues day. They also had a dummy de fensive drill yesterday. They will go to Houston Saturday morning by bus. The Owls will be a heavy favorite to extend their A&M winning string to nine straight games. The last time the Aggies defeated Rice was 1944, by a 19-6 score. Since then, the Owls have won by the following scores: 6-0, 27-10, 41-7, 28-6, 13-0, 21-13, 28-13 and 16-6. Rice 7th Nationally Rice has the nation’s seventh best ground game and the 10th best rusher in fullback Kosse Johnson. Johnson and halfback Dicky Moegle ar-e first and second, respectively, in Southwest con ference rushing. In seven games, the Owls have averaged 256.3 yards on the ground. Ellis vs. Rushing If the weather is dry, the game probably will be a battle between the passing of Don Ellis and the SWC’s leading rushing attack. Ellis, after two bad Saturdays, is now third in conference passing and second in total offense. He has connected on 58 of 129 passes for 706 yards. Ellis has a total of fense record of 801 yards, 16th nationally. He ranks ninth nation ally in passing. igers Play Be11vilie For District Title A&M Consolidated high school’s unbeaten Tigers storm into Bell- ville Friday night for the game that will decide the district 25 - A title. Kickoff time is 8 p. m. After Friday, the Tigers close out the season against Tomball, and Bellville ends against Katy. But Consolidated and Bellville have been the top district teams all year and should have little trouble in their last games. Consolidated went through a dummy offensive and defensive drill yesterday. Today only a light practice will be held. The Tigers are still highest scor ing high school team in central Texas, with 365 points to ,21 for their opponents. They have' gained 2,631 yards, a 329 yard per game average. Their opposition has only gained 900 yards, for a 112.5 yard average. Halfback, William Arnold is the team’s rushing leader, with 61.9 yards in 87 tries for a 7:11 yard average. Bobby Joe Wade leads in scoring with 66 points. John Hudson , Rice’s Rugged Tackle Fish Flay Slimes Friday The A&M Fish will have three new starters in the lineup when they meet the undefeated Rice Slimes in Houston Friday night. The contest is a benefit game for the Holly Home for the Aged in Houston. Admission will be $1.20, and kickoff is at 7:30 p. m. Guards Billy Pippen and Jim Martin and quarterback Bob Holli day will be the new starters. From Pampa Pippin is a 180 pound Pampa product and Martin is a' 210 pound er from Houston. Holliday played Rowland’s Long Runs Give CMC 12-6 Win A quartermaster, sparked by the superb running of Bill Rowland came back to beat B field artillery 12-6 in intramural football yester day. The first touchdown for A quartermaster came when Eugene Faltin threw a 60 yard scoring pass to Don Barksdale B field came back with a 60 yard pass from Mack Lawiey to Clay Homing. Then Homing passed to Bruce Littel for 15 yards. Telford Intercepts Van Telford of A quartermaster intercepted a pass to stop this threat by B field. Rowland went through the mid dle on two straight plays for 20 yards. B field went around left end to A quartermaster’s three yard line. Fred Rose then circled left end for B field’s only touchdown. A quartermaster’s Gill inter cepted a pass to stop a second threat by B field. Rowland Scores From here Rowland, on a play which included a series of hand- offs, carried 50 yards for the second and deciding score. ,B field came back strong but was stopped by a brilliant A quartermaster defense as the game ended. B infantry edged past A armor 8-0 in a tight battle. Rudy Henson scored two touch downs and passed for two others to help squadron 7 sweep past squad ron 12, 25-0. Basketball A engineer’s Arios Shaw scored 10 points to help outscore A ordnance, 19-9. Dave Richmond, squadron 6, scored eight points to help his unit beat B armor, 26-12. A chemical’s Bobby Cato scored nine points to help smother squad ron 9, 27-9. Tennis In tennis matches at the cement courts, squadron 17 beat squad ron 25, two matches to one; com pany L blanked company G, 3-0; and Company K won over company B, 2-1. In horseshoes squadron 10 beat squadron 15,2-1, and squadron 8 forfeited to AAA. Ag Handball Chib Meets Rice Friday Ten members of the A&M Hand ball club will play the Rice hand ball team at 6:00 p. m. Friday in the Rice gymnasium. John Centilli is president of the club, which is sponsored by Her man B. Segrest. The 10 man team is composed of David Kerry, Glen Rice, Lawrence Laskoskie, Hall Gimarron, Phil Randol, Mick King, Johnny John son, A. G. Howard, Jim Mathis and Centilli. The Aggies split with Rice last year in two matches. Rice won in Houston and Hie Aggies won here. No plans have been made for the next match. The team will leave by private car for Houston at 2 p. m. The Fish have not played a game since Oct. 15, when they tied the TCU Polliwogs, 6-6. They defeated Tarleton State 34-0 and lost to the Baylor Cubs 7-14. Since the TCU game, the Fish have been scrimmaging against the varsity three days a week. Freshman Coach Willie Zapalac said he was pleased with the pro gress the players have made. The Fish have depended largely on a ground game that has aver aged almost 200 yards per game. In three games, they have gained 598 yards rushing. Fullback Jack Pardee, a hard- running- 290-pounder, is the team’s leading rusher with 238 yards on 47 carries for a 5.1 yard average per try. Halfback Bobby Keith, a fine broken field runner, is the team scoring leader with 28 points. He has picked up 188 yards rushing on 35 carries for a 5.4 yard aver age, highest on.the team.
