Seek Seventh
Straight Win
The rampaging Consolidated Ti
gers go after their third district
win and their seventh victory of
the season when they meet Katy
high school Friday night in Katy.
Riding the crest of a tremendous
scoring and defensive record, the
Tigers will be heavy favorites to
add Katy to their string of grid
victims.
In their six victories, Consoli
dated has rolled up a total of 288
points for an average of 48 points
per contest, while holding the op
position to seven points. The lone
score made against the Tigers
came on a kickoff return for a
touchdown by the Navasota Rat
tlers.
332 Yard Average
The Tigers have amassed 1,992
yards for a per game average of
332 yards, and have given up only
516 yards in six games for a de
fensive record of 86 yards per con
test.
J. B. Carroll, Tiger extra point
specialist who gets a lot of prac
tice, has booted 27 conversion
points to lead all central Texas
players in that department. Lead
ing Consolidated’s high scoring
parade are David Bonnen and Bob
by Joe Wade, both of whom have
totaled 48 points.
In the Katy contest, Melvin
Free’s tackle post will be filled by
Charles Johnson. Free suffered a
back injury in the 49-0 victory
over Waller, and will be out for
the remainder of the season.

Head football coach Ray George
is a puzzled man this week. He
doesn’t know who is going to be in
the starting backfield against Bay
lor except at quarterback.
If Joe Boring is in top shape
after missing the last two games
with a leg injury, he may start at
one halfback. If the Aggies kickoff,
Boring’s starting chances will be
much better because of his fine de
fensive ability. Bob Easley and Don
Kachtik will start at fullback if
Boring starts.
Connie Magourik, Elwood Ket-
tler or Billy Pete Huddleston will
start at the other halfback. Ma-
gouirk put on a fine offensive and
defensive performance against TC
U and is a likely prospect.
One thing is certain about A&M’s
backfield, however. Don Ellis will
start at quarterback.
Ellis is the Southwest conference
scoring leader with 31 points on
five touchdowns and an extra
point. He has passed for three
other scores, thus accounting for 49
of A&M’s 82 points this season.
Ellis was selected in the United
Press backfield of the week after
the TCU game.
Asked about the effect of rain
on A&M’s chances Saturday,
George said, “It’ll rain on both
sides of the field. I’m hoping for
good weather, but rain would hurt
them just as much as us.”
“I hope that Ellis gets to run a
lot,” said George. “That way we
can control the ball, and we’re go
ing to have to hold the ball to
win.”
A&M’s defense is 10th in the na
tion, giving up 186.2 yards per
game to five opponents. In Boring
and Ellis the Aggies have two of
the best defensive backs in the
conference. Take, it from George,

“Our line will have to play its
best game of the season. They have
a really terrific running attack to
go with their passing.”
The Cadet defensive line has al
lowed only 129 yards rushing per
game. The pass defense average of
57.2 yards per game is first in the
conference.
A&M has run 241 ground plays
this season to 203 for their op
ponents, the third largest advant
age in the conference. The Cadets
have driven to 71 first downs this
season, second in the conference.
Baylor, however, has averaged 20
first downs per game.
