Coaches
Switch Jobs for Year
Two A&M assistant football
coaches have switched jobs to -kick
Gil Steinke
Handles the Defense
off this year’s offensive and de
fensive set-up.
Dalton Faircloth
Creates New Brainchild
Dalton Faircloth, last season’s
defensive coach, will spark offen
sive tactics. He replaces Gilbert
Steinke who has moved to the
defensive position.
Faircloth took offensive work to
try out his new pig-skin brainchild,
a T formation with an unbalanced
line, which the Aggies will use
this year.
He has designed the formation
to add more power to offensive
tactics.
Starting his third year here as
assistant coach, Faircloth has
coached Louisiana’s De Quincey
High School. He also has trained
teams at Louisiana college and
Mississippi’s New Albany High
School.
Steinke Took Job
Steinke took the job of rebuild
ing the Aggie backfield in 1951.
He had been assistant backfield
coach.
Former Texas A&I All Ameri
can halfback, Steinke turned pro
with the Philadelphia Eagles aft
er finishing college. He led the
National league in punt returns in
194G.

scales to 224. Scott is in his last
year, but Winkler is a junior.
Regular offensive tackle last sea
son, Scott is expected to turn in
top performances this year. His
favorite role is defensive ball, so
with his offensive experience he
may be top lineman on the Aggie
squad this year.
Eric Miller, Paul Kennon and
Benny Sinclair will split the start
ing honors for the Cadets. Miller
and Sinclair were the choices in
spring training, but Kennon has
been pushing for a berth on the
first team.
Kennon is a junior and weighs
185 pounds. He was an All-Amer
ican in Louisiana in high school,
but was handicapped by injuries
last fall. He went through spring
drills in good shape and looked
good.
Miller Is Big, Fast
Miller is a senior weighing 210
pounds. He is a valuable two-year
letterman, and has had good ex
perience at both offense and de
fense. He is big, fast and served
as a starter last fall and in spring
drills.
Sinclair is a junior, and like Ken
non was handicapped last year by
injuries. He is a top-notch pass re
ceiver and is expected to start with
Miller.
He was outstanding freshman
two years ago and showed great
promise in spring training. Sin
clair weighs 193 pounds.
It all adds up to light players, a
few experienced key men, some
tough obstacles to beat and a team
who wouldn’t even stop drill for the
rain and mud during the opening
week of workouts.
