THE BATTALION Friday, May 8, 1953 Effective Baylor Pitching Downs Cadet Baseballers, 8-4 WACO, May 1 OP)-Baylor com bined Fran Cotton Davidson’s effective pitching with third and ninth inning outbursts yesterday to trim the Aggies, 8-4, in a South west Conference baseball game. Davidson had the Cadets’ blank ed until the seventh when they combined a solid single with two scratch hits, a hit batsman and four walks for four runs. Baylor scored three times in the third, twice in the ninth, and once each in the fifth, sixth and seventh. LAST TIMES TODAY The two teams meet again this afternoon, beginning at 3 p.m., and the Baptists can virtually sew up third in the final standings with another triumph. Coach Pete Jones will probably start Bobby Holick against the Cadets. Aggie coach Beau Bell said yesterday he would go with Jerry Nelson, the winning- est pitcher in the conference with a 4-1 mark. All Aggie runs were scored in the seventh, when Davidson gave up three singles, walked another trio and hit one. Les Bird, Cadet outfielder, got three hits to pace his team at bat. Baylor started the scoring in the third inning, pushing over three runs on two Aggie errors, a free pass and Sullivan’s first hit of the game. The Aggies scoxed 87 points, Texas 67 and Rice 15. Malcolm Max’ks, A&M polevault- er, bi'oke the Aggie record with a 14 foot vault to win first place. This is the best, Marks has done this year, and the best-ever in the confei'ence. Glen Spradlin was second with 13 feet 8 inches. Bobby Ragsdale, the Cadet track captain, who ran the 220-low hur dles in 22.6, the fastest time in col legiate circles this year. He also won the broadjump with a hop of 23 feet 614 inches, and was second in the 100-yard dash.
