‘Servirxg Texas Aggies”
Track Team Meets Team Pk v;ir ^
Rice, Texas Today
By BOB BORISKIE
Sports News Editor
The Aggie varsity and fish
tx’ack squads compte this after-
xxoon in a tx-iangulax- meet with
Rice and Texas in Austin.
With 33 fish entex*ed in the vax--
ious events, the total exceeds the
31 vax'sity competitors making the
tx-ip.
Darrow Hoopex-, Bobby Gx-oss,
and Dan Px-att make up the Aggie
exxtx-ies in the shot put and dis
cus. If they tux-n in theix- usual
pex-fox-mances, it is possible that
they will finish oxxe-two-three.
In the pole vault, Aggie stx-ength
is also px*oixounced, with Malcolm
Marks besting the confex-ence xe-
cox-d on oxxe occasion this year
with a 14 ft. 2l4 inch leap. Glenn
Spx-adlin and James Eax-le are both
very capable vaultex-s who give
the Cadets a chaixce for a sweep
in the event. .
Javelin Hurlers
Pete Mayeaux leads the javelin
entx-ies, with Tom Dollahite,
Geox-ge Knipple, and Roy Dollar
due to take down points in the
javelin.
The high jumpex-s ax-e Max-vin
Swiixk and Thomas, both of whom
ax-e improving in evex*y meet.
Bobby Ragsdale aixd Bill Stal-
ter give the Aggies a stx-ong
double entx-y in the broad jump.
Ragsdale has leaped ovex- 25 feet
this yeax- aixd has his eye oxx the
coxxfex-ence xecox-d of 24 feet, 9 %
inches, held by Hale of Rice, who
set the ixxark in 1932. It is the
oldest max-k in the confex-ence
books.
Ragsdale and Stalter are also
entex-ed in the sprints, along with
Mayeaux and Bob Scarborough.
440 Yard Dash Entries
Aggie x-epresentatives in the 440
yax’d dash will be James Bakex*,
Carol Libby, Gerald Stull, and
Fx-ank Norx-is. This gx - oup will also
run the mile x-elay, and may post
a good time, since the xelay team
has been continually hampex-ed by
injuries, aixd is just now x-ounding
into shape.
Running in the half mile event
will be Edwin Wilmsen, Wallace
Kleb, and Bob Collins. In this event
the Aggies will run into good com-'
petition, since both Texas and
Rice have vei-y good half milers.
Clxax-les Hudgins, Dale DeRouen,
and Hairy Whitmore in the mile
run will give the Maroon and
White a good shax-e of the points
in that race.
The Aggie softball team will Pitcher
play the Marlin Bathers on the picked to;
lighted diamond at 8 p. m. Satur- and Bead
day in a doubleheadex-. second cot;
Marlin is the former Calvert
All-Stars who won the National The Agg
Softball Congress world champion- so n record
ship in Phoenix in 1951. ses.

Blaine After Mark
The two mile? run features James
Blaine, who will be battling to
break the confex-ence mark in that
event. Blaine can’t officially bx-eak
the fecox-d this afternoon, since
confex-ence max-ks can only be set
in the SWC meet, but he should
give some idea of what to expect
next week, by the x-ace he x-uns
this aftexnoon. Fx-anklin White-
well is the other Aggie entry ill
the two mile x-un.
Hurdlers will be Glenn Blake,
Hax-ley Hax*tung, H. A. Smith,
Ragsdale, and Dollahite. An in-
tex-esting x-ace is in prospect be
tween this group and Scallorn of
Texas.
