game’s first field goal to give the
Army a 5-5 tie at that point. The
quarter ended with the Army lead
ing 10-9, with the nine Air Force
points all coming via free throws.
In the second quarter, with 5
minutes and 30 seconds left in the
first half, Montgomery marked up
the first Air Force field goal and
the half ended with each team own
ing one field goal for the first two
periods. The score was tied at
13-13.
The third quarter produced a
different Air Force team, as the
players began to hit the basket
regularly and they moved out to
a comfortable 25-18 lead by the
end of the quarter.
More of the same occurred in
the final period as the Air Force
increased their lead to the 37-24
margin at the final whistle.
One double winner and four de
fending champs were crowned last
night to feature 1953’s excitement-

Team Foil Title
Bob Jones, Joe Pafford and Bob
Braslau of A&M’s fencing team
won the South Texas team foil
championship of the American
Fencers League of America Satur
day, and also qualified for the fi
nals of the open state individual
meet.
Saturday’s meet was held in Rice
Field House at Houston. Other
teams competing were Houston
YMCA, the Galveston Buccaneers
Fencing Club, Rice, Corpus Christi,
and University of Houston. With
A&M, these teams compose the
AFLA’s south Texas division.
Jones, Braslau and Pafford plac

be held in Lubbock in May.
In sweeping to the team cham

number two team, U of H and
Corpus Christi. The Buccaneers
later edged the threesome for the
club championship. The first team

Gus Wulfman, Bob Ruiz and

Taking the top three places in
open competition were Jack Baird,
Buccaneers; Bill Brown, Bucca

not sure who will start, they are
so close.”
In the final spring game, the
first team, defeated a hustling

cause of other spring sports and
various minor injuries.
