Eight Fish Scrappers
Cop ’Mural Ring Titles
The eight top freshman boxers
of 1953’s intramural ring program
were crowned yesterday in a rous
ing, excitement-packed 45 minutes
of boxing in DeWare Field House.
Co. C’s Clarence Wheeler and
Richard Foretich took the 177 and
191 pound crowns. Jaime Gonzales,
the 123 pound champ, and Red
Horton, the 130 pound titleholder,
are in Co. I.
Other division titlists are: 137
pound—Allen Greer, Sq. 17; 147
pound—Louis Hischler, Co. F; 157
pound—Jack Pearson, Sq. 20; 167
pound—Del Owens, Sq. 21.
As expected, the 137 pound scrap
between Greer and Alvin Sinclair,
Sq. 24, proved to be the classiest
of the day. Going into the last
round, Sinclair was ahead on two
of the three judge’s scoring cards.
Both boys were swinging away
near the ropes when Alvin slipped
and fell to the floor, landing on a
trick knee. With Sinclair unable
to continue, the bout was awarded
to Greer on a TKO.
Using a weaving attack which
threw off Greer’s timing, Sinclair
had scored well in the first and
second with combinations of hard
left and rights to the head.
Horton TKOed Joe Pinson, Sq.
17, in the second round, opening
a cut over the right eye with an
overhand right. Gonzales dccision-
ed Allen, Co. H, landing' a good
right cross very effectively and
scoring the harder punches.

fought bout.
