Page 4 THE BATTALION Tuesday, November 11, 1952 Texas Artists’ Paintings Being Shown In MSC The Contemporary Artists Collection is now being; exhib ited in the front display case in the MSC, said Mrs. Ralph Terry, sponsor of the MSC art gallery committee. The 25 paintings being exhibited are a part of a large selection of paintings submitted by Texas art ists to the Knoedler Gallery of New York City. From the numer ous paintings received. The Knoed ler Gallery selected G9 paintings which they are now exhibiting in various parts of the state, said Mrs. Teriy. The purpose of the exhibit is to provide regional exhibits for the Texas artists, she added. From the collection which was recently exhibited at the Contem porary Museum in Houston, 25 paintings were selected to be dis- jdayed in the MSC showcase. Several of the well known Texas artists whose paintings are repre sented in the collection include Otis Dozier of Dallas; E. M. (Buck) Schiewetz, former student of the college; Francis Skinner of Houston; and Janet Turner of Nacogdoches. The exhibit will be displayed in the MSC until Nov. 4, and it will then be sent to Austin where the entire G9 paintings of the col lection will be displayed in the capitol. ipffy COMMISSIONED—Don M. Topic: Freshman Area Suggestion 1: Freshman area to be opened to all upperclassmen Model Plane Meet Set A model airplane contest spon sored by the A&M Model Club and the Bryan Junior Chamber of Com merce will be held at Travis Base ball Field, Sunday, Nov. 16, at 12:30 p. m. The U-control events will fea ture beauty, stunt, combat, and half-A engine classifications. Priz es will be awarded in all events. The contest is open to everyone. Entrance fee will be 25 cents per contestant, to be put in a jack pot for the all-around winner. There will be exhibition flights of jets and flying saucers, and a free for-all-circle at the end of the meet. Admission to the show is free, and there will be seats and soft drinks available for spectators. Information can be obtained at Schaffers Book Store. Physical inspections will be continued so long as there is evidence of hazing in the Corps of Cadets. VIII. Topic Reinstatement of B Armor. John A. Way, PAS&T. The purpose of this pro gram is help the student eval uate the basic principles involved in flying and help him decide whether or not he wants to make it his career. Col. Way said. Aircraft utilized will be T-Gs, T-lls, or C-45s, which can accom modate two students each. Flights will be made from 12:45 to 5 p. m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. On Saturday, the flights will be made from 8 a. m. to noon. Four students will fly each day, with two of them reporting to Ross Hall no later than 12:45 p. m. and the other two no later than 2:45. In each flight, the student will get basic instruction in planning the flight, routine inspection be fore take off, how to wear and use the parachute, clearance, weather, and navigational aids. He will get a chance to handle the controls in a few basic maneuvers. Local flights scheduled for this program will not be made under bad weather conditidns or after sundown. Students will be furnish ed transportation from Ross Hall to and from Bryan AFB. If time permits, juniors, sopho mores, and freshmen will be in cluded in the program.
