Sparkman Asks
United Front
Huntsville, Ala., Nov. 5 —
Sen. John J. Sparkman of Al
abama, Democratic candidate
for vice president, said early
today, “The American people
have spoken, and I concur fully in
their choice.”
Sparkman issued his statement
after Gov. Adlai Stevenson of Illi
nois’, the party’s presidential nom
inee, had conceded defeat of the
Democratic slate.
“I have no regrets over the out
come of this election,” Sparkman
said. “The American people have
spoken in and I concur fully in
their choice. I believe in the ne
cessity of presenting a united front
and will do my best to co-operate
with Gen. Eisenhower and his ad
ministration to fulfill the respon
sibilities facing the country.”
Sparkman said he saw no “dif
ficulty” as far as the Democratic
party is concerned. He said it will
be a party of “loyal opposition,
but can be looked to to co-operate
fully in any constructive program
that is proposed.”

In GOP “ Nixon
LOS ANGELES, Nov. 5—
Sen. Richard M. Nixon, suc

Americans “join together behind
the leadership of Gen. Dwight Ei

throughout the world.”
The young running mate of Gen.

“We want to express our appre

Republicans, independents and
Democrats—who joined in the cru
sade which has elected Dwight Ei

States. The result of the election
is a great expression of the confi
dence and faith that the American
people have in his leadership.
“In the natural gratification thal
we all feel at this moment, we
must never forget the great re
sponsibility that a new adminis
tration must assume in the critical
period ahead. As Dwight Eisen
hower has said on occasion aftei
occasion, there is no problem which
160 million united American peo
ple cannot solve. ^
“Now that the election is over
let us join together behind his
leadership to advance the cause
of freedom and to bring aboul

Sky’s” success goes to producer
director Howard Hawks who als<
made “Red River.” Hawks use;
some of the same technitians wh<
worked on the earlier film. Thes<
include photographer Russell Har
lan and composer Dimitri Tiomkin
who wrote music for “Duel in thi
Sun” and “High Noon.”
In addition to using some of t^
same artists, producer Hawks use
some of the same techniques i:
filming both movies. Each stor;
is narrated by one of the principE
characters, describing the scenes
and events of the respective stoi
ies. Both motion pictures have
mass shooting scene around a cam
fire, the action of which is almos
identical.
“Red River” has already take
its place among fildom’s great;
With “The Big Sky,” Howar
Hawks seems to have cornere
the top movie market.
