Thir ty new members and the eight re turning lettermeh were present. M/Sgt. C. R. Nelson, coach, opened the meeting with a talk on the safe handling of pistols. Sgt. He also pointed out that more people have been accidentally killed or injured \vfth “unloaded guns” than with loaded weapons. Capt. S. L. James Jr., range of ficer for the pistol team, welcom- I ed the new members to the range and to the team Capt. James said he was surprised by the turnout and impressed by the interest shown in pistol shooting. “Pistol shooting hard work and, like any other sport, an athlete must be in good physical shape; this is attained only by long and conscien tious practice,” he said. Doug Henson, team captain, ex plained plans for the year, includ ing shoulder to shoulder matches with Fort Hood, Fort Sam Hous ton Military Police, Jlice Institute, and possibly others. The sessions were well attended, more than 100 attending one or more of the meetings, including several from out of the state. During the conference preceding the business meeting, discussions centered around the future of bee keeping in Texas, apiary manage-, ment and swarm control, an ex planation of the honey loan pro gram, proper handling of honey in the extracting house, old and new bee diseases, the government program for marketing honey, re ports from the Beekeeping Foun dation, and American Beekeeping Federation, qLieen pea,ring as an important part of beekeeping, the challenge to beekeeping, the new vetch wehvil and , research on pol linations ' with . particular refer ence to crimson and sweet clover. Various or ganizations have been holding program planning meetings and entertaining the new officers and prospective members with teas. Last week the College Women’s Social Club held its opening tea honoring new women employes and wives of new employes of A&M. About 275 women attended the social in the MSC Ballroom. Mrs. C. C. Doak president, followed an old Aggie custom and had everyone introduce herself to those about her.
