Aggies Over
U of Houston
By ED HOLDER
Sports ‘Editor
Holder
The Aggies will beat the University of
Houston 13 points.
Ray George has a lineup dotted with inexperienced
sophomores, but these boys have been improving day by day.
The entire team has shown the right spirit, and they should
show even more against the Cougars tomorrow night.
You can look for a passing game most of the way. Ray
Graves is better than last year, and he now has experienced
lettermen to snag his throws. Darrow Hooper and Eric
Miller will give the secondary of the Cougars a tough time
all night.
Don Ellis is another good prospect for passes. And
here is a boy who not only can catch them, but: when called
on can turn in a good job at throwing. Raymond Haas, Con
nie Magourik, and Don Kachtik could also be targets for
Graves’ aerials.
The ground game will roll along well too. Magourik has
been showing much improvement at fullback, as has Kach
tik. Both these men have driving power, and are a threat
at any time they are called upon to carry.
Down the Line
Going down the line we have
Bobby Dixon and Durwood Scott
at offensive tackles.
Here are two tough men who
know the game. They are also
faster than the usual run of
tackles. Marvin Tate and Sid
Theriot are running at the guard
slots.
They have a big job ahead of
them, but from what they have
shown at workouts, these light
sophomores should do the job.
McMahan will play center, an
other man showing great im
provement.
It will be speed and deter
mination against heavy exper
ienced lettermen, but with the
Aggies shaping up as they have
been, we’re behind them, 33-20.

PREVIEW SAT.—10:30 P.M.
Also Sun. & Mon.
Baylor Vs. Wake Forest
Even though the records show a
heavy average of wins for SWC
teams in inter-sectional play, Wake
Forest should have the upper hand
this time. Baylor has lost every
thing.
The Demon Deacons from up
north have lost little, and will have
a strong defense back.
It looks like another aerial game,
but a close one. Two tight de
fenses, both without too much of
fense.
Wake Forest should come out on
top by a narrow margin, 20-14.
TCU 27—Kansas 13
If Dutch Meyer holds true to
form, he won’t put out all he has
against any non-conference team.
The Jayhawkers will be a
guinea pig for the clever Mey
er’s new strategy for 1952. His
passers are back, his receivers
are back, his line is back, and
his runners are back.
He could put the score higher,
but after a lead, he will prob
ably pull the starters and let it
rock along till the gun stops
things with the Frogs ahead,
27-13.
TU 32—LSU 13
The University of Texas Long
horns will show the team which
will later win the conference.
The LSU Tigers will have fight,
but they will be too far outclassed.
All-America candidates are too
plentiful on the Longhorn squad
to keep them from rolling "ri'ght
along.
But Coach Ed Price of Texas
believes in winning them all, and
from here it doesn’t look as though
the Tigers can hold him back any
better than 32-13.
Arkansas 26—Oklahoma A&M 7
Another of the SWC powerhous
es will be unleashed when the
Porkers meet the Aggies.
Arkansas lost a big heavy line—
they have another with less ex
perience, but just as large.
The Okie Aggies have a good
ball club, but it will be another
case of a SWC power outclassing
an outsider. The Hogs should have
an easy night and roll up a score of
26-7.
‘THIS IS IT BOYS’—Backfield Coach Gil Steinke explains a play to his men just be
fore going - into a scrimmage. Raymond Hass, (left) and Don Ellis (third from left)
listen as he tells Ray Graves and Connie Magourik (right) how to make a quick
opener smoother.
Tigers Battle Iota Tonight
In Second Debut of Season
By GUS BECKER
Associate Sports Editor
The A&M Consolidated Tigers
have then’ work cut out for them
tonight when they tangle lola on
Tiger Field at 8 p.m.
This marks the opening game for
the lola team while the Tigers
are making their second debut of
the season.
“My boys will be in better phys
ical shape this week,” said Tiger
Coach O. V. Chafin this morning.
“They have worked hard all week
and I think they are ready,” Chaf
in continued.
“John Manthi, guard, Jimmy
Bond, tackle, and Rod Cook line
backer, will probably miss the
game,” Chafin said, “Melvin Free
will replace Manthi, Robert Clel-
and will play Bond’s position and
Bobby Carter will probably be in
Cook’s spot.”
First Meeting'
This will mark the first meeting
between lola and Consolidated
since Chafin took over the Tiger
reins. The lola coach is Homer
Bond,, former Bryan resident.
“Bobby Joe Wade looked good
in practice this week and may re
place Roy Byer at the right half
back slot tonight,” Chafin remark
ed.
The lola team will have plenty
of weight with one tackle prac
tically breaking the scales at 350
pounds while the other is lighter at
190.

The Wildlife Management In

to operate the Texas Cooperative
Wildlife Unit.
Jack Allen, manager of the
Dempster Mill Manufacturing

er to the Amarillo Conservation
Experiment Station, the TA.ES an

Both of the guards weigh 180
while three of the backs weigh 160.
The Consolidated line averages 155
pounds.
Fred Anderson, junior quarter
back on the Tiger squad drew
coach Chafin’s praise. “Anderson
is as good a back for a straight
“T” as you can find in our class
of ball,” Chafin said.
“Bonnen (David) is a good full
back and Willie Arnold is about
the best scat-back in our confer
ence,” he added.
“We will have better receiving
at the ends this week, I believe,”
remarked Chafin”. Bobby Jackson
is a good boy and Pete Hickman
looked very good.”
