Six athletic events have been scheduled, with outside opponents to meet the Aggies in baseball, track, golf and tennis. The swim ming teams will stage an intra squad meet on the big Saturday, and the football team will scrim mage Saturday night. A&M students use this weekend to invite high school boys from all over Texas to visit A&M. Here’s the athletic schedule for that day: Sport Opponent Baseball Brooke Field Medics Track Rice and Texas Golf University of Houston Tennis University of Houston Swimming Fish vs Varsity Football Maroons vs Whites haVe come a long way since then, Aggies Go To Houston; Minus McDowell’s Aid Thursday, January 24,1952 THE BATTALION Page § The Aggies will travel to Hous- but they lost more when they said* ton tomorrow to clash with the goodbye to McDowell. University of Houston Cougars. It will be the Cadets first game since Jewell McDowell ended his career last Friday night against Baylor. It is expected that all of the Aggies’ foes will be watching the game closely to find how well the Aggieland boys can do without the services of their All-SWC guard. Many are wondering what they’ll be able to accomplish without the little man considered to the con ference’s outstanding guard, who has now graduated. Have Met Before A&M’s second meeting of the year against the Cougars here might offer a fair answer to the question. Houston dumped the Ca dets, 38-29 in a seasons opener at. College Station. Davis is the SWC’s third best scor er with 203 points in 14 games for an average of almost 15 a game. Biggest Win Over Aggies Strangely enough, Alden Pas- che’s unpredictable Cougars built up their largest victory margin in that 38-29 win over the Aggies. Since then they have losti heart- breakers to OCU and Murray State, split with Detroit, lost an overtime game to St. Louis, pulled a one-pointer out of the first against Tulsa and were soundly thrashed by Oklahoma A&M. Then last Saturday night even crippled Sam Houston State gave them a scare before losing by 3 points. Cougars Doing Good Despite their 4-6 season’ record, the Cougars are doing better than expected with two Missouri Val ley Conference victories already, as many as they won all last sea son. Houston is well-indoctrinated in the Henry Iba slow break style employed by the Aggies. As a mat ter of fact, the Cougars, slower and more defensive minded than last year, have of necessity ab sorbed some of the Iba style them selves. Up until their last game the Cougars had the highest shot-mak ing percentage in the nation, 41 per cent, according to NCAA sta tistics.
