Thursday, December 13, 1951 THE BATTALION Page 5 McColl Named Lineman Of The Year New York, Dec. 13 — UP) — Bill McCol!, a big factor in Stanford’s winning of the Pacific Coast Con ference football title and the Rose Bowl spot against Illinois, has been selected as the lineman of the year. The 21-year-old 225-pound end from San Diego was the choice of 103 sportswriters and sportscasters participating in the Associated Press poll. “The greatest lineman I have er seen,” said Coach Chuck Tay- Don Bin ford Ball-controll experts, Miksch and Binford, repeatedly find their way to where the ball rebounds. Miksch has great natural talent and could possibly be THE player this year on the squad. Binford LeRdy Miksch is very effective on offense and helps greatly in leading the team on the offensive end of the court. Aggies to Have Four New Foes OnFootballScheduleNextYear The Aggie football squad will have a new set of intersectional opponents next season. The four foes will also represent three new football conferences. Dropping out of the Cadets sche dule are UCLA of the Pacific Coast Conference, Texas Tech of the Border Conference, Oklahoma of the Bix Six Conference and TumblmgQmic Meets Saturday Coaches and student parti cipants of five SWC schools are expected at a gymnasitc clinic sponsored by the A&M Gymnastic club at DeWare Field House Saturday afternoon. Texas, Baylor, Rice and SMU will participate in the clinic which will begin at 3 p. m. Saturday and the public is invited. Coaches from the different schools and experienced performers will give instructions and demon- strate new routines and tricks. No admission will be charged to attend the clinic which the A&M club hopes will build up interest in gymnastics among local persons as well as in the Southwest Confer ence. Bowling League Meets Saturday The Junior Bowling class wall meet for the last time before the holidays Saturday at 11 a. m., announced Mrs. Elaine Lester, manager of bowling and games at the MSC. Mrs. Lester reported an attend ance. of 13 last week in .the class which has a special instructor. No more than 16 boys can be accomo dated, she remarked. High score last week was 150, by Majure Atterbury. High prize for league bowling was won by Jon Ray Perryman. Trinity University of the Gulff Coast Conference. The Missouri Valley Conference has two representatives in the Uni versity of. Houston and Oklahoma A&M. The University of Kentucky will represent the Southeastern Conference and Michigan State the Big Ten Conference. The University of Houston Cou gars are a rising eleveif in South west football and will not be an easy touch for the 'Cadet team. The Cougars are playing the Uni versity of D'ayton Flyers in the Salad Bowl in Phoenix, Arizona on New Year’s Day. Oklahoma A&M which will take the place of Texas Tech on the Aggies schedule, are not as strong a club as their rival enemy Okla homa, but play a rough, hard brand of football and are expecting to have a better team next year than this season. Kentucky on Kyle Field A team that usually has a good season, Kentucky, will be the open ing game on Kyle Field and the third contest of the season for the Farmer squad. This game taking the place of the Oklahoma battle will give the Aggie fans a good preview of the kind of ball club the Maroon and White will have. This is the second year in a row that the Wildcats have played in a major bowl game on New Year’s Day, meeting the SWC Champions, TCU, in the Cotton Bowl. A power in the Big Ten Confer ence, Michigan State, was number one in the nation this year until the close of the year, and will have a number of players back from this years squad, next season. The Student Co-op North Gate Fish Meet Allen Cagers Tonight The Aggie Fish five will be seeking their first win of the season, tonight when they tangle with the Allen Acad emy Ramblers in Bryan. The game will start at 8 p. m. n the Allen Academy gym, in the ast game for the Fish cagers be- ore the Christmas holidays. Botfi teams will be out for their 'irst victory of the year. Allen ms lost three games while the Fish Topped one to Victoria Junior Col- ege 34-40 after leading at the half. Probable starters for the Fish are Dale Fisher and Robert John son at forwards; Cecil Neely at center; and Rodney Pirtle and Don Moon at guards. Two Texas Teams In Bowl Contests By Associated Press Already victorious in two out of three games, Texas teams play two more bowl games this week. Carswell Air Force Base of Fort Worth goes to Columbia, S. C., Saturday to meet Fort Jackson, S. C., in the Service Bowl, while Kilgore Junior College tussles with Northeastern Oklahoma A&M in the Texas Rose Bowl at Tyler. Eight bowl games in which Tex as teams participate will be left after this week. Del Mar of Corpus Christ! whammed Pearl River, Miss., 32-6 last -Saturday in the Memorial Bowl at Jackson, Miss.
