Background music attains the ultimate objective of all such works. It does its job of setting moods without becoming so ob vious as to be distracting. “Streetcar” is a sensitive por trayal of a fading Southern beau ty trying to return to the stand ards and the way of life she has once known. Blanche Du Bois, played by Miss Leigh, is forced to live with her sister and brother-in- law in the poorer section of New Orleans after losing her school teaching job due to an affair with one of her young pupils. Brother-in-law Steve Kowalski, played by Marion Brando, is ir ritated by the pretensions of the aging Blanche and is determined to hurt as much as possible. Steve’s cruelty begins with in sults and crude remarks, build ing slowly towards the destruction of the pitiful romance Blanche is having with one of his friends. About 300 private homes in the Bryan-College Station area will provide housing for over 1000 week end football fans. This list of private homes was completed early in September. It is available to the public at the housing office 24 hours a day. The MSC is booked full for all the games of this season, Boyer said. the sensitive ex-schoolteacher. The attack breaks the last fee ble bonds of sanity, making Blanche’s removal to an instiu- tion necessary. The picture closes with her being led away by one of attendants from the institution. To (he end she clings to the ideals of the Southern aristo cracy to which she was born, re sponding to the man only when he treats her with the deference due a lady of her breeding. “Streetcar” is presented against the background of the squalor and loose morals of New Orleans’ French quarter. Although the cam era is able to span time and dis tance, the audience gets an im pression of the cramped quarters in which the Wowalskys live. Passions flare as personalities clash in the narrow confines of the slum area. Love and death are here along with birth and sin. The story of Blanche Du Bois is the story of the sensitive person ality stifled by the life she is forced to live. But I sure do wish you would think about me, ’cause I have to live in this world when I grow up. I know it’s not your fault that things are the way they are. But if you want to give me a break, you might start improving the world now. The Church up the street can help you improve yourself. And pretty soon I’ll be there too, learn ing the lessons I need. And the family next door, we could invite them to go with us every Sun day. And the rest of the folks in town—we can give them a sample of what we believe by treat ing them the way we like to be treated ourselves. Understand ... I don’t know all the answers. But God does! Just listen to Him—that’s all I ask! THE CHURCH FOR ALL . . . ALL FOR THE CHURCH The Church is the greatest fac tor on earth for the building of character and good citizenship. It is a storehouse of spiritual values. Without a strong Church, neither democracy nor civilization can survive. There are four sound reasons why every person should attend services regularly and sup port the Church. They are: <1) For his own sake. (2) For his children's sake. (3) For the sake ol his community and nation. (4) For the sake of the Church itself, which needs his moral and ma terial support. Plan to go to church regularly and read your Bible daily.
