He also made many key blocks that sprang Billy Tidwell and Glenn Lippman loose for long gainers. By FRANK SCOTT Battalion Staff Writer Felix McKnight, managing edi tor of The Dallas News, revealed some interesting facts concerning football in general and A&M foot ball in particular while he was here to address the QB club. The Sports Writers Association of America, who pick the Collier’s All-American football team, asked McKnight to wire them an account of Jack Little’s performance against the Mustangs. This may mean that Little is under serious consideration for All - American honors. Little has been chosen the AP back-of-the-week for his per formance against Oklahoma. Lit tle gave a good performance Sat urday making thirteen tackles and assists. McKnight said that the best thing that had happened to SWC football this year was right here at Aggieland. And that was Ray George, Aggie coach. He said that George’s handling of the TCU incident, the illegal kick-off, was a true example of sportsmanship. McKnight also had praise for George’s policy of allowing press conferences immediately following games, a thing which few coaches allow. McKnight mentioned the “so- called” case against big-time foot ball in his interview. “Football is not a bad, bad old wolf about to eat up all college boys. It is a great game, one to be preserved—find I am tired of a few publications try ing to blow up a case against a grand sport with a few isolated cases. “Sure, there are a few things wrong with football—but the sit uation is not so bad as some would have you think.” McKnight continued, “The fans —or rather a minority of the true fans are putting a damaging scar on college football with out-of-line tactics that range all the way from wolfish Monday morning quarter- backing to heavy gambling that leads to scandal.” Taylor Wilkins, SWC official mentioned a few interesting anec dotes concerning the El Campo boys on the football team. Glenn Lippman, halfback, is a mechanical engineering student. Last semes ter Glenn carried 20 hours and made 57 grade points, and on the basis of his engineering record is a member of Tau Beta Pi, national engineering society. Jaro Netardis, end, is a business major. Last semester Jaro took 20 hours and made GO grade points, which means a straight “A” in all subjects. Elo Nohavitza, guard, who rounds out the El Campo trio, is also a business major, and last spring he carried 21 hours and made 48 grade points. All this and football too! Few fans know that Ray Graves, quarterback, has a twin brother, Kay. Back in their high school days at Stephenville, the brothers were outstanding in football and basketball. A business major, Kay is still active in athletics as he sometimes gives his brother a rough going-over in pre-game foot ball practice. Augie Saxe, one of the great de fensive halfbacks at A&M, who is sitting out the rest of the season with a broken hand received in the Trinity game, made a talk at last Thursday’s yell practice that typi fies the fighting spirit of Aggie- land. The essence of Saxe’s talk was this: “Everyone is asking’ w h a t’s wrong with the team this year? There’s nothing wrong with the team, they’re playing just as hard as they ever hadve.” Saxe con tinued, “the team lacks the depth in reserve strength that we had last year, especially the line posi tions. “There’s nothing wrong with a team that gets out there and plays its heart out every Saturday like the Aggies do, and if you really want to help the team, then tell them what a good job they’re doing instead of asking what’s wrong.” ' \ A '' <■ X' :i:-,v , j- AW lmS!b , ' '1 . - A vicious blocker and tackier, Little enhanced his All-American H bid Saturday by making 13 tackles and assists. He caught a 27-yaard gainer from Quarterback Ray Graves late in the fourth period to keep Aggie hopes alive and almost caught a TD pass on the next play. Shaeffer was a terror on de fense, making 20 tackles, six of which were unassisted. THE FORD’S HOME IN BRYAN AND COLLEGE STATION I S CADE MOTOR COMPANY “Your Friendly Ford Dealer” 415 N.
