Thursday, October 25, 1951 THE BATTALION Page 5 Bruin Coach Sauer Brings Top Record George Sauer has started his second year as Baylor’s football coach this year. In his first Sfeason, Sauer took material that was doped to finish in the SWC cellar and with the aid of his assistants developed the surprise package of the league. Sauer’s 1950 Bears started slow ly, losing to Wyoming and Arkan sas in two of their first four games. Then came victories over A&M, TCU, Texas; Tech, SMU, Rice and a narrow loss to Texas. It added up to seven victories second place in the conference, and Texas “Coach-of-the-Yeax” honors for Sauer. In the poll of Texas sports writers, no other coach came close. At season’s end, Sauer had invitations from every cor ner of Texas to serve as their banquet speaker. Aside from coaching the football team, Sauer works hard at his post of athletic director. Two of his aims are to improve Baylor’s all-around athletic program and add top-notch opponents to the Bruins’ football schedule. Sauer served as a member of the coaching staff for the College All- Stars, who met the Cleveland Browns in the big game in Chicago earlier this year. This marked Sauer’s second ap pearance in this game. He co captained the College Allj-Stars aaginst the Chicago Bears in this game in 1934. On New Year’s Day of 1934 he scored two touchdowns to lead the West to a 12-0 victory over the East in the Shrine game at San Francisco. On January 1, 1947, he returned to the Shrine game as a member of the West coaching staff. Thus, Sauer is among few who have played and coached in both the “big all-star games.” all makes PORTABLE TYPEWRITERS featuring the ROYAL QUIET DELUXE — Convenient Terms — LATE MODEL TYPEWRITERS AND ADDING MACHINES FOR RENT Bryan Business Machine Co. He has been claimed as one of the finest all-purpose ends in the na tion but so far this year has been used mostly on offense. Williams is considered one of the finest receivers in the South. This year he leads all of his other teammates in scoring with three touchdowns. In last year’s game with Rice, he snagged two tough catches for touchdowns. As a freshman at Baylor, Williams blocked five punts and one extra point. He is a terrific competitor and considered an inspiration to his fellow players. Williams is majoring in business and will enter coaching after grad uation. He is married and has an 18-month-old son named Danny. —Beat Baylor— Williams Is Top Scorer Of Brums Who is the leading scorer on the Baylor Bears football team?
