Aggie Nine Closes
On 2nd Place With
Double Bear Kill
By ED HOLDER
Battalion Sports Staff
Behind the four hit pitching of
Pat Hubert, the Aggie Diamond
Squad copped their two games ser
ies with the Baylor Bears, 9-0
and 12-G.
In Friday’s game, the first of
the series, Hubert became the first
pitcher of the season to blank the
Bears in a shut-out. His teammates
.aided in the cause with their er
rorless playing.
Also a big factor in Friday’s
win was the much-improved bat
ting of the Ags. A1 Ogletrce
catcher, drove across three runs
with a single, a double, and a triple.
This netted him three for four at
the plate. Another leading Aggie
hitter was Yogi Candelari with his
triple and two doubles.
The Bruins, playing on their
home field, were baffeled at Hu
bert's assortment of pitches as he
kept the one remaining spark of
hope for the Aggies taking the
SWC title alive and glowing.
In the second game, Saturday
afternoon, Bob Tankersley gave up
10 hits, but the Aggie squad came
to the rescue with their better-than-
ever hitting to help him win, 12-6.
By winning this game, the Cadets
destroyed Baylor’s last slim chance
to finish with second place honors.
Highlight of the game was Guy
Wallace's bases-loaded homer. He
piled up a total of 5 runs batted
in during the afternoon. Othpr top
sluggers in Saturday’s game’ 1 were
Yale Lary, with two doubles, and
Shug McPherson, with a single and
a home run.

the area immediately behind the
old horse barn which is located
southwest of the Administration
Building.
These classes will continue as
long as interest in the project is
shown, continued Fagan.” Instruc

knowledge of the fact that you will
not be able to attend every lesson,”
he added.
It has been planned to be grqup
instruction on an individual basis,
and all faculty and staff members
who are interested in this clinic
are invited to avail themselves of
this free school and the facilities at
the course, said Fagan.

Nips TCU4-2
At Fort Worth
The Aggie Golfers tripped TCU
4-2 in Fort Worth Friday to grab
a firmer hold on the No. 3 spot.
Johnny Barrett, Bob Dahoney
and J. C. Fletcher all won singles
matches while the only loss in two
some competition was suffered by
Tony Guerrero.
A&M’s only doubles loss fell on
Guerrero and Fletcher.
The linksmen will play SMU in
a re-scheduled match Wednesday
afternoon and then Thursday and
Friday they will be the host quar
tet to all Southwest golfers in the
annual Southwest Conference Golf
Meet.
If the Aggies should score more
than one and one-half points on
the Mustangs Wednesday, the fair-
ways-and-greens title will automat
ically go to Texas.
On the other hand, if the Ponies
should take five of the six matches
they would be the champs. A four
and one-half win to SMU would put
the Ponies in a tie with the Long
horns.
In an Ohio State League game,
June 25, 1912, Pitcher Selbach of
tvalked 11, hit three batters and
made a wild pitch.

Tracksters Capture 11
Firsts, Tie For One
By RAY HOLBROOK
Battalion Sports Staff
Taking 11 first places and tie-
ing for first place in a 12th event,
the powerful A&M trackmen de
feated Texas and Rice in the third
triangular meet of the year among
the three schools.
Aggie squad men rolled up 99
points as compared with Texas’
showing of 53 and Rice’s low-hole
score of 18 points.
This win over Texas was the
first since 1943 on Texas home
grounds for the Cadets, and it also
brought the Ags within one meet
of being the first A&M track squad
to finish a season undefeated. The
last meet will be held this weekend
on Kyle Field, where the Aggies
are highly favored to win.
Stalter High Pointer
Outstanding performer in the
meet was Bill Stalter, sophomore
sprint star. He emerged as high
point man when he won the 100 yd.
dash in 9.8, and the 220 in 21.0.
Stalter also ran anchor man for
the 440 relay which won with a
time of 42.0.
Stalter’s time in the 220 equals
the best recorded in the nation this
year. He is to be the favorite in
the 100 and 220 in the conference
meet since Texas sprint star Ralph
Person is sidelined with an injury.
Close behind Stalter in total
points tallied was another Aggie
Soph, Harrow Hooper. Undefeated
in nine meets this year in both the
shot and discus, Hooper added his
usual 10 points Friday by putting
the shot 51’ 5” and tossing the
discus 157’ 9”. This discus throw
was. his best distance of the year.
Buddy Davis turned in another
of his unusual performances by
Netters Take Final
Game Over Baylor
The Aggie netters wound up this
season with their defeat of the
Baylor Bears Saturday in Waco,
6-0.
Ray DeBerry won the No. 1
singles match over David Tel
ford of Baylor. DeBerry’s victory,
6-8, 6-1, and 6-1, started the ball
rolling and Eugene Letsos, A&M
No. 2 singles man, followed up by
taking his match over Leneveaux,
6-2, 6-3.
Royce Tate of the Ags kept up
the pace by beating Baylor’s No.
3 man, Weis, to the tunq of 7-9,
6-1, and 6-1. Tate’s teammate Dick
Hardin then added his point to
the Aggie total by taking his
singles match, 6-2, and 6-3.
In the No. 1 doubles match, De
Berry teamed. up with Letsos to
take an easy win, 6-2,. 6-2. Har
din and Tate finished off a per
fect meet by taking the No. 2
doubles match, 6-2 and 6-3.
This placed the Aggies in third
place position in the SWC tennis
rhting. SMU took first place only
2 wins in front of A&M, and TU
copped the conference to repeat last
year’s performance. The Aggies
won 18 and lost 12 during the sea
son.

his best leap of the year, and to
come within 3/4” of the SWC rec

event was the all-around Ag soph
