The encounter will be the 35th in Aggie-Owl series'. A&M has won twenty and tied three of these contests while losing eleven. Rice blanked the Cadets 13-0 in Houston last year- • i*. Coach Jess Neely’s Owls opened their season with a vic tory over Santa Clara in Houston. They quickly added two more conquests, taking LSU in stride and edging Pittsburgh at Pittsburgh. Then they ran up against the SMU Mustangs and came out on the short end of the score. Texas proved as inhos pitable again the next week in handing them still another conference loss. They rebounded to trounce Texas Tech in Houston the following week and added to that another con ference victory over Arkansas at Fayetteville last week. They will come to A&M thus seeking their second conference win. Their remaining games are with TCU and Baylor. The 1949 conference champion Rice Owls entered the ’50 campaign minus 20 lettermen including such stars as Froggie Williams, Joe Watson, Tobin Rote, and Bobby Lantrip. These men were instrumental in Rice’s Cotton Bowl victory over North Carolina last year. Replacing them has been a big job for Coach Neely, but he has come up with some very promising talent in the form of a quarterback named Vernon Glass, who for two years un derstudied Tobin Rote. Sunny Wyatt and Billy Burkhalter have proved themselves capable halfbacks also. These men are capably bolstered by a good first string offensive and defensive line. Danger seems to lie in the lack of experienced line reserves. Two of the three Owl tri-captains are stick-out linemen, center Lee Stonestreet and guard, Ike Neumann (the other is quarterback Vernon Glass). Added chores as squad lead ers have not detracted from the performance of these two who have se.en much action on both offense and defense. Stonestreet has made many a tackle this fall as a talented linebacker, despite a bruised leg sustained in the Pitt game. Neuman the quiet and efficient type, successfully made the switch from fullback (he was an all-stater at Port Arthur) to offensive guard and ranks as a top blocker. He also has seen a lot of action as a linebacker. Rice has been plagued with injuries in its last few games. Halfback Sunny Wyatt is among the injured with six stitch es taken in his tongue after last Saturday’s game with Ar kansas. Fourteen other players comprise an injury list that rates Rice close to TCU in the aches and pains department. Most. of. thes.e players are expected to see action. A&M will be seeking to avenge a series of five straight losses to the Owls. While at the saftne time attempting to make positive their claim to a chance at the southwest con ference title. • The two men ambling at you from above are none other than Left Halfback Glenn Lippman and Fullback Bob Smith. Rest assured that if you were an opposing lineman you would have to look fast even to see them let alone see smiles on their faces. That man in the air below, who looks like he could gobble up ten fullbacks, is Russ Hudeck, a tackle that has seen a lot of action on both of fense and defense this season.
