Arkansas’ Razorbacks descend upon the Texas Aggies
from their lofty perch in the Ozarks in quest of their second
conference victory this Saturday night.
A&M’s Maroon and White gridsters, over their injuries
following last week’s 27-20 loss to Baylor, will be all out to
hand the Porkers their third conference loss.
Coach Otis Douglas’ team has dropped conference games
to Texas Christian and the University of Texas while man
aging to best only the Baylor Bears.
Arkansas opened its season by losing to Oklahoma A&M.
They bounded back the next weekend to trounce firmly
North Texas State but dropped another non-conference tilt
to Vanderbilt 14-13 last week to bring their record to a won
2, lost 4.
Douglas, fresh from pro coaching duties with the Phila
delphia Eagles has indoctrinated pro tactics in the form of
the split T into Arkansas’ system of play.
His pro defense is patterned to man-for-man coverage
while his offense is wellsuited to passing.
Manp ower is plentiful but experience sparse for the
Razorbacks. They boast the biggest tackles and ends in the
SWC. All told they have 26 returning lettermen including
four ends, four tackles, five guards, three centers and ten
backs.
Inexperienced quarterbacks were the Arkansas mentor’s
biggest worry at the beginning of the season but trainees
have come along better than expected.
Both coaches and spectators will get a chance to . see if
Arkansas’ past six games have provided the experience need
ed by Douglas’ boys in order to make .them into a well oiled
machine of men.
In the all time series between the two schools the Ag
gies have won 10, lost 11, and two games have ended in
ties.
