A&M Prof Attends Oak Ridge Seminar Frank L. Thomas Jr., instructor in the Electrical Engineering De partment, is attending a Research Seminar at Oak) Ridge, Tennessee. He will be there until Dec. 16. Mr. Thomas, a lieutenant in the U. S. Naval Reserve, is attached to the Volunteer Research Unit 8-3 at College Station. He is one of 50 research officers attending the seminajr. The seminar is being conducted under the sponsorship of the Of fice of Naval Research. In gene ral, the seminar consists of lec tures by heads of department at Oak Ridge and officers from the bureaus of the Navy Department and inspection of the activities at Oak Ridge., Coffin Appointed To Shivers Group J. W. Coffin, associate research engineer,, Texas Engineering Ex periment Station, was recently ap pointed as the A&M’s representa tive to the Governors Industrial ization committee. The function of the committee is to assist William L. McGill, exe cutive secretary, who receives in quiries directed to the governor regarding possibilities of indus trial expansion in the state. In their work, committee members through the facilities of their organizations, gather pertinent background infor mation relative to the subjects posed. ' j Other members of the committee are Ted Clifford, Texas Employ ment Service, and C. R. Cranberry of the University of Texas. A&M has been represented on the Committee for several years. Richard A. Downward was im mediate predecessor to Coffin in this work. Coffin is in charge of. the pro gram of’ industrial serveys being conducted by the Texas Engineer ing Experiment Station in coopera tion with the Management Engin eering Department.
