show is put together.

Medical Prices
Will Increase
Shortages always raise prices.
The Texas Medical Association, by
restricting enrollment in Texas
medical schools to barely enough
to replace deaths and retirement
has cut down our supply of doc
tors, especially in our rural areas,
thereby causing a shortage and
higher fees for services, while
3,000 pre-med students find the
gates barred against them.
This same medical association
now plans to get control of the
supply of all competitive healing
professions, so they can cut off
replacements in these healing pro
fessions and make the shortage
even more acute and thus raise the
prices higher than today.
The Basic .Science (S.B. 63) is
designed to give the Medical As
sociation complete control of all
branches of the healing arts and it
is being pushed by unlimited funds
and a high-priced lobby. If we,
the people, do not write, phone or
visit our senators and representa
tives, we will have this infamous
legislation forced upon us.
This is a call for action. If you
want to know the names of your
legislators, phone this newspaper.
Address letters to them at Capitol
Station, Austin. Stop that Basic
Science bill. Write, wire, or phone
today.

Management Grou
To Meet in March
The second annual management
engineering conference at A&M
will be held March 23 and 24, ac
cording to V. M. Faires, head of
the Management Engineering De
partment.
“As Texas industry grows; there
is an increasing problem of rating
the employees job in dollars and
cents—of deciding what part of
the payroll each individual worker
should receive,” said Faires. “This
cannot he done successfully in hit-
or-miss fashion. Job evaluation
marks off duties objectively.
The management engineering
conference, which has been de
veloped by the A&M College and
industrial representatives of the
state, will explore the fields of
job evaluation and merit rating.”

Guests will be admitted to their
rooms at 3 p. m. Saturday and

Plant Foodstuffs
Investigated Here
“How plants manufacture pro
tein foodstuffs” is being investi
gated by the Agricultural Experi
ment Station under sponsorship of
the Nutrition Foundation of New
York, which has renewed a grant
of $2,000 for a third year.
“We know that plants and other
living organisms manufacture ami
no acids, and wo know that certain
vitamins are necessary for the
process,” said Dr. Carl M. Lyman
of the Department of Biochemistry
and Nutrition, which is conducting
the experiments.
“But it has always been obscure
as to just how these food acids are
produced. We are working with
very simple organisms—lactic acid
bacteria—in order to learn more
of the process. Better understand
ing of the process should aid us
in dealing with nutrition problems
of men and animals.”
