in his report on the Austin meet
ing of the Executive Comjnittee of
the College Classroom Teachers
Association.
From 1938 to. 1948, Rode said,
per capita income of the people of
Texas increased 291 percent and
the net revenue to the General
Revenue Fund in Texas increased
336 percent. However, based on sal
aries at North Texas State College,
the salaries of college teachers in
creased only 38 percent, he said.
In terms of purchasing, power,
college teachers had no raise in
pay, but actually suffered a 21
percent reduction, Rode said. This
situation, he added, if not rectified,
may have alarming consequences
on the quality of instruction in
Texas colleges.
One of the aims of the College
Classroom Teachers Association, is
to improve the quality of education
in the state.
Robbery Attempt
Made Saturday On
Shaeffer’s Store
An attempted robbery was made
Saturday night at Shaeffer’s Book
Store at North Gate, but nothing
was reported stolen, Herb Shaef-
fer, owner of the store, announced
yesterday.
The glass on the front door was
broken out near the handle. It
was assumed that the person who
attempted to get in had planned
to reach inside and take off the
night latch, Shaeffer said, how
ever, there is no night latch on the
door and a key is required to open
it from either side.
The broken glass was discovered
Sunday morning by W. M. Sparks,
owner of the building. Shaeffer
said that he did not learn of the
attempted robbery until Sunday
night after he returned from Dal
