Two Texas men, Charlte Parker
and ^Jerry Thompson w^re high
point men in the meet. Parker led
with 1114 poihts by taking the
100 and 220-yard dashes and run
ning op th* 400-yard reldy team.
Thompson scored 10 poihts with
firsts in the one and two mile dis-
jtahee runs. |
George Kadera and Bill Car- 1
den tied for first place on the
Aggie squad. Kadera won the
shot put and placed second in the
discuss, for eight points. Car-
; den placed second in the 120-
yard high hurdles and first in
the 220-low hurdles for his eight
points. ?
Texas was ahead most of the
way, but a first and a fourth in
the shot put and a first and second
in the low hurdles gave the Aggies
a never-relinquished lead.
* A&M’s crack rpile relay team of
Hamden, Holbrook, Bilderback and
Napier scored the most convincing
win of the meet. They grabbed the
lead after the first lap and were
never threatened. Their record-
breaking time of 3:19.6 might have
been lower if they had had some
stronger competition.
| fr ‘ 1 v
A&M showed strength in the
track as well as in the field to rob
the Texans of vital points. The 440
yard dash was a near sweep for
the Cadets, with Art Harnden plac
ing first, Ray Holbrook taking sec
ond and Ervin Bilderback third.
Cox of Rice finished fourth.
The half mile raqe was One
of the closest of the meet, with
six ruiuiers straining for the
tape. Aggie Webster Stone hit
first with Tarrant of Oklahoma
A&M inches behind. Bob Atkins
of A&M was third, and Hoff of
Rice came in fourth.
Bill Napier placed third in the
220-yard dash behind Parker and
Cotton of Baylor, and the 440 re
lay team of Napier, Bob Goode,
Bob Hall and Webb Jay came in
second to Texas, by two yards to
round out AfiM^s track j points.
J. D. Hampton led Thompson of
Texas for seven laps in the two
mile race, but the diminutive Steer
runner pulled ahead ini a last-lap
sprint. ;;
A&M’s well-rounded team plac
ed in 12 of the 16 events in tak
ing this win. \
George Kadera’s failure to place
in the jaVeliq was the only Unex
pected loss for the Aggies. How
ever, Kadera made up for it with
his performances in the shot put
and discus. Bob Goode placed sec
ond in the javelin and in the shot
put.
Oklahoma A&M came in third
with 24 points, followed by LSU.
Rice fifth, Baylor sixth, and SMU
