NEW YORK, Mar. 11 -UP>—
Lavern Roach is training in com
parative privacy for his big chance
in the fight game, his battle with
Marcel Cerdan of France next, Fri
day night.
The Pride of Plainview, Texas,
is getting in his practice licks in a
lower east side gym far removed
from the hustle and bustle of Still
man’s, near Madison Square Gar
den. Down to 157 pounds, Roach
plans to work oh Genian's body.
Marcel, a busy scrapper with an
aggresive style, hopes to beat off
Roach before he can work inside.
Roach can move into the front
row of middleweight challengers by
a win. Rocky Graziano is recog
nized as 160-pound champ in many
states but the title is “in abeyance”
in New York.
