T, Not From It
• ■ i i : ' I
DALLAS, Feb. 24 —UP)—
Tho»e who all these many
years have been dying a thou
sand deaths for the Texas Ag-
ffias may take heart in the crisp
statement of Harry Stiteler, new
coach of the Cadets:
“We will run off the “T” forma
tion. I am sure you notice that I
use ‘off’ and not ‘ftom’. I think we
have run from the T enough and
it’s about time we were staying ,at
home and not running from it.”
It’s a typical Stiteler statement.
This fellow is going to he mighty
good copy for the boys of the press
jn the coming football campaign.
He’s not cocky;; he ! s just a realist
[He knows that nothing is accomp
lished by taking an under dog at
titude. He knows that to imbue a
team with fighting spirit the coach
must be of thq same stripe.
Aggieland has no illusions of
grandeur. It has no better pros
pects—probably not as good-^s
faced it at the start of the 1947
season.
★ ’
But Stiteler and his co-work
ers have brought in a fine flock
of Freshmjen. Visions of what
may come in 1949 or 1950 will
serve as a buoyant influence for
1948. , ; i .
A changeyof poaching set-ups al
so has its effect. At least the sea
son can be started without knock
ing from every direction, without
defeatism becoming evident before
even one football is kicked. Thus a
good start is possible; a good start,
Can lead to big things.
Stiteler will have 19 lettermen.
Thatiineans reserve strength won’t
be too good. (Bat under the new
[freevfor-all substitution rule re
serve strength isn’t as important
gs it once was. You can do with
fewer replacemgnts when you can
shuttle your metlt in and out at wlll
Line Coach Bill Dubose has Stiteler changed the style of
n instructing the linemen to the T bt " aU8e h .« sa > 8
1 he has passers who can t run
and what sliced he has comes
from small boys.
“This, of course, says run the T,”
he declares.
